The Yokomo YZ-2 1/10 Scale Electric Buggy has reached it's next progression with two updated mid-motor buggy offerings; this Dirt Edition and the Carpet/Astro Edition (YOKB-YZ2CA). Both buggies now favor a 3-gear transmission over the previous 4-gear, but are tailored to their respective track conditions.
The YZ-2 DT Edition (Dirt) features the taller and shorter transmission of the two buggies. The 3-gear tranny has been made with a slightly higher CG, but places the mid-motor more rearward compared to the Carpet/Astro Edition. The Dirt Edition transmission also incorporates a gear cover not found on the Carpet/Astro Edition, as well as the necessary ball differential.
To accommodate this updated transmission location, an updated chassis, rear shock tower, upper arm mount, battery plate and wing stays are used. Also found on the The Dirt Edition is an updated steering plate arm. This updated chassis is not the same dimension as the older conventional YZ-2 chassis.
For use on low/med grip surfaces.

Out of the box, I needed to only change ball stud washers, and go out one hole on the rear shocks to get it totally dialed for my local clay indoor track. Get the machined pistons as they are cheap. Red springs are good for the front. My TLR required much more setup help and still isn't as good.

--This is a build review only! I may update once I actually run the car.-- Car is very precise. Much like a Kyosho build except it has a different feel to it. Almost as if Kyosho made the B5. Parts don't seem to have as much carbon content so the screws don't go in as hard as a Kyosho or TLR. Many parts key together like an on road car. Shocks are silky smooth. All manufacturers seem to have stepped up their game in the shock dept, but these are standouts, right on par with Kyosho and maybe a small step above TLR. If you are using a full size servo you want to make sure your electronics are very small!! Since this chassis can be converted to a lay down car there is minimal room in front of the battery tray. Using a shorty servo will help a lot. So far I am pleased with the car and feel the asking price is fair considering all the aluminum you get. I am surprised more people don't run these. I imagine once folks see my car and the quality that goes into it they might try Yokomo.

The quality of the parts and part fitment are second to none. The only thing you really need is machined shock pistons and springs to tune to your track conditions. Every time I run my DT it just keeps getting better, awesome buggy.

Car went together extremely well!!! Instructions are very clear and easy to follow. One thing i wish was different was the body, there is no cut lines for the gear cover/motor plate as it is the body from the original yz2.
