The 1980s witnessed the rise of the hot hatch in the automotive world. Among the automakers that played a pivotal role in popularizing hatchbacks was Volkswagen, with its iconic MK2 GTI 16V earning a special place in the hearts of automotive enthusiasts. Tamiya has meticulously reproduced the MK2 GTI, transforming it into a rally race car built for A7 class competition. This body is mounted on the versatile MF-01 chassis, perfectly suited for navigating both asphalt and flat dirt terrains with ease.
MF-01X Chassis:
Based around a tough monocoque frame with integrated gearboxes, this compact 4WD chassis gives a thrilling drive whether you take it on road or flat dirt surfaces. It features a rear-mounted motor, with gear-driven rear wheels and a propeller shaft taking power to the front. Both front and rear gearboxes have differential gears. The battery pack location in the chassis center secures excellent balance, while 4-wheel independent double wishbone suspension employs friction dampers.

Tamiya Volkswagen Golf MK2 GTI 16V 1/10 4WD Electric Rally Car Kit (MF-01X)
This kit was a straightforward build with a nicely detailed body. I'd suggest picking up some bearings for the initial build as opposed to the included bushings, as it would require a full tear down to upgrade to them after it's already built. Fun little kit to drive around pavement and hard packed dirt alike, the included rally tires do a good job on both surfaces. Light buckets are functional and take 5mm LEDs, you could also go all out and add 3mm turn signals and reverse lights from the looks of the rear light buckets.

Quite literally the worst experience I have ever buying a kit... first off, kit was previously opened, most of the plastics were already off the trees.. someone must have took what they needed and must have returned this mess... the box had a label "opened and inspected" I should have returned it then.. I started building the kit, found missing parts that are not easy to find. Ordered replacement parts from japan and china, as there was no response from my cs request to Amain. Sat down to continue the build, next step.. guess what.. more missing parts...

Love my Tamiya kits and this one is no different!!!! This is my third MF-01X kit. Only recommendation I have is to pick yourself up a bearing kit and ditch the bushings included in the kit.
