1/18 High Performance Ready-To-Run Mini Rock Crawler

This is the Ascent-18 1/18 RTR 4WD Rock Crawler from Redcat. Embrace the thrill of scale rock crawling with the Ascent-18, a high-performance crawler that brings the excitement of larger-scale models into the compact 1/18 scale. Packed with features typically found in larger-scale crawlers, the Ascent-18 offers enthusiasts a capable and affordable option for tackling challenging terrains and obstacles.

About the Ascent-18

Portal Axles

The portal axles incorporated into the Ascent-18 crawler provide a significant advantage on challenging terrains, offering increased ground clearance and minimized torque twist. Utilizing durable metal portal gears, ring gears, and pinion gears, these axles ensure consistent performance, allowing the Ascent-18 to navigate rough trails smoothly and efficiently. Moreover, the crawler's remarkable steering angle enhances its agility, enabling it to maneuver effortlessly through tight spaces and conquer formidable obstacles with ease. To maintain optimal traction, machined aluminum spools are employed, ensuring stability across all four tires. Additionally, with 7mm wheel hexes, drivers have the flexibility to select from a wide range of wheel and tire options available in the market.

Chassis

Crafted from 2mm flat rail aluminum, the chassis strikes a perfect balance between strength and agility, enabling the Ascent-18 to effortlessly glide over obstacles while maintaining stability. Its lightweight construction enhances maneuverability without compromising structural integrity, providing a sturdy foundation for consistent performance. The portal specific chassis implemented in the Ascent-18 crawler reflects a commitment to durability and performance. Featuring high-quality hex hardware, the chassis ensures both resilience and ease of maintenance, vital for sustained performance on challenging terrains.

Hop Up Parts

The Ascent-18 offers a plethora of performance hop-up options tailored to elevate its capabilities further. Brass upgrades, including inner and outer portal axle box components, servo mounting brackets, diff covers, and various suspension links, enhance durability and add weight where needed for enhanced stability. Aluminum hop-up parts such as servo mounting brackets, suspension components, shock bodies, and skid plates contribute to reducing weight while maintaining strength and rigidity. Additionally, steel transmission gear sets provide increased durability and reliability, ensuring optimal power delivery and longevity under demanding conditions. These hop-up options empower enthusiasts to customize and fine-tune their Ascent-18 crawler to suit their preferences and conquer even the most challenging terrains with confidence.

Redcat Ascent-18 1/18 4WD RTR Rock Crawler (Red)
The front clip does not engage, will not stay on front bar so the body comes off. So far tech advice is to tell how the system works! Talk with Redcat customer service. Same advice and rude too! The body does not fit that is fairly simple. Like the truck I will buy a body when available. Don’t ya hate when people don’t listen or care. Customer service?

Redcat Ascent-18 1/18 4WD RTR Rock Crawler (Red)
Great little rig, better quality than I've seen from Redcat Racing in the past. 100% worth the hype built up on Youtube.

Redcat Ascent-18 1/18 4WD RTR Rock Crawler (Red)
I was a bit reluctant to buy the Ascent 18 for fear the reviews were all hype. I couldn’t pass up on the initial release pricing so I took the chance and have been pleasantly surprised! I own quite a few small scale crawlers but this one has been impressive right out of the box in terms of capability. Good throttle modulation, nice steering radius. I’d love to see a scaled down lexan Scout body for it but I’m happy with my purchase.

Redcat Ascent-18 1/18 4WD RTR Rock Crawler (Red)
I absolutely love it. I have the Trx4m and this seems more zippy that that body has popped off the front a few times but the rear has always stayed locked in. I liked it so much i just bought rhe grey one as well. Imo the most fun ive ever had for $100 in r/c

Redcat Ascent-18 1/18 4WD RTR Rock Crawler (Red)
Very impressed with the Ascent 18 especially after upgrading wheels/tires and adding some brass! The motor/trans are geared a little high for slow crawling but once you get use to it and are super light on the throttle it does amazing. I really feel like this one is a huge value, yes the upgrade parts are a bit expensive and I will probably replace the steering servo and motor but I still feel it's an excellent value and a rig that is worth putting money into to make it even better!.

Metal gears, great shocks, bearings throughout, a great body and design, super solid. I like the simplicity of the body as well and it's only 14 bucks to get a brand new one!

Redcat Ascent-18 1/18 4WD RTR Rock Crawler (Red)
I own 10+ micro-crawlers from all the big names and love to compare and upgrade them... all bought and paid for myself. IMHO, Redcat hit a home run with this one. I'd sum it up like this.... Redcat arrives to the micro-crawler scene well past fashionably late but comes with a solid no excuses no apologies offering that totally blows away Axial and Traxxas in terms of stock crawling capability and product value. The fact that it's $99 at initial release is amazing because it approaches 'Fury FX118 good' on the rocks. Electronics are very good. Motor runs dead silent and slow crawl is proper good. Body size is nearly identical to C10 SCX24. Wheelbase is the same 155MM as many other popular 1/18s and the gladiator/powerwagon SCX24s, although track width is substantially wider than the SCX24s. Stock wheels/tires are VERY good, although also very light. It's unfortunate they are glued on. Servo is a bit slow, but totally makes up for it with plenty of torque. Turning radius, while good, is not class leading. It will benefit from overdrive gears in the front portals (available but already out of stock at this point in time). One other minor nit is that there are a couple places where philips screws can be found, but really not many, and not an issue at all. All in all, it's an excellent product that differentiates itself from, and significantly outperforms, it's competition and punches well above it's weight.
