The RCPROPLUS RCA2018 Spring Lock Soldering Station takes the RCPROPLUS soldering station design to the next level. By replacing the alligator clips, with spring loaded locking elements you get a more secure hold on the item you are are trying to solder without damaging the shielding, along with the ability to hold 6 to 16awg size wire. Plus, the addition of thumb screws on the locking heads allow you to easily adjust the position of the head without the use of tools.
By combining this updated locking head system with the simple yet ingenious low profile tri-pod base and adjustable horizontal stabilizer bar, you get all the benefits of the previous model, with improved functionality. RCPROPLUS Spring Lock Soldering Station Stand V3
I've been a long-time user of the V1 soldering stand; hoping that this new V3 would solve the shortcomings of the V1 model. Boy was I wrong. The quality of the unit first appears measurable however, after assembly you soon come to realize that it leaves much to be desired. Even after tightening the thumb screws, the armatures do not stay in place. Everything slides around! The gold "keeper" devices wobble left and right badly enough that there would be no way to apply any pressure to the RCPROPLUS bullet connector window without throwing out the alignment of the bullet with the wire. The black metal rods are too small for the openings of the gold keepers! In addition, when inserting a female connector, the wire doesn't line up with the connector! Poor quality due to nothing being able to stay tight and poor testing of what looks like a great design but only turns out to be total dud. I am returning this device asap. Don't waste your money; try and find a V1 or even a V2 and deal with those short comings before dropping $70 on this POS.

RCPROPLUS Spring Lock Soldering Station Stand V3
This is a well made, high quality soldering jig. I got tired of using alligator clips and octopus arm jigs only to realize they were junk. I recently purchased the hot racing soldering jig and found it great for connectors but wanted something more adaptable. I came across the RCPROPLUS V3 jig and decided to try it out. The springs are robust, clamps are solid "not hollow", good clamping force, gold plating is a nice touch, and most of all it makes soldering a lot easier. I'm no soldering guru and I appreciate a product that helps me develop proper techniques rather than fiddling with wire/connector positions. The price is a little steep but I'd purchase it again because it got rid of many frustrations I was having when soldering.
