BlackBox is a feature that is universally utilized via Cleanflight, and many flight controllers which support Cleanflight firmware. Certain flight controllers simply do not have BlackBox onboard, or have smaller data flash chips which can only log about 30 seconds of data with low looptimes. Using an external BlackBox allows users to store more data when needing to capture such information while tuning, or trying to pin point problems within the quad.

In order to deliver the best performance, it is suggested to use Class 10 SD Cards. Higher quality cards such as SanDisk are preferred, to ensure that data does not get corrupted during the logging process.

To flash appropriate Cleanflight compatible firmware to the OpenLogger BlackBox unit, it is additionally required that you will need either an FTDI programmer, or Arduino Uno device. When the flashing and firmware uploading is complete, please additionally ensure that the baudrates match within the CONFIG.TXT file, and Cleanflight. Lastly, CleanFlight BlackBox will need to be enabled, and mapped to a radio switch for activation in flight.
