This is the O.S. GT55 2-Stroke Gasoline Engine. The GT55 is similar in appearance to other O.S. 2-cycle, with a large number of extra deep and thin cooling fins on the crankcase and head. One of the features that makes the GT55 different is the use of a unique 1-piece crankcase design, that eliminates gaskets and enhances strength and precision. But the biggest difference is one that can only be felt. The GT55 produces 20-30% more power than any other engine in its class!
Another major performance feature is the IG-01 Capacitive Discharge Ignition. Developed from proprietary O.S. technology, the IG-01 provides optimum spark advance using a specially programmed microcomputer, allowing the magnetic sensors on the crankcase and prop drive to detect the ignition timing. The IG-01 also detects and compensates for wet plugs during start-up, ensuring quick and easy starts. The IG-01 has been designed to operate on 4.8 - 7.4 volts for flexibility (No Regulator required), and requires minimal current in standby mode. The IG-01 also features a low-voltage warning when the voltage drops below 3.8V and the engine is above 5000 RPM. This warning feature causes intermittent engine operation, providing you with ample opportunity to land your aircraft before the battery looses voltage.
A unique front-mounted carburetor provides several performance benefits:
- Better carburetor cooling, for more consistent engine runs and high performance.
- Requires shorter standoffs, which results in more secure installation (mounting) and less vibration overall.
- Very simple, direct installation of the throttle and choke linkages.
Other benefits include:
- No oil seal is required, eliminating rpm lost due to additional friction.
- A front-induction, rotary-valve crankshaft ensures that the valve is opened and closed providing optimum timing.
- Massive front and rear bearings, ensure long life and maximum power output.
- A thin, high-performance piston ring and high-strength aluminum alloy piston, for reduced break-in and high compression from the very first run.
