Redcat Piranha TR10 1/10 Scale RTR Electric Truggy w/TQ 2.4GHz Radio, Battery & Charger

I did not buy mine from A Main but the item is the same and I would like to spare any future potential victims. I got mine from Amazon for my son's 11th birthday. It was supposed to be his first real RC car. We tossed the NiMh battery and put in a 2s lipo. The car is fast for an RTR atleast for a beginner but thats about all Red Cat got right on this truggy. I don't recommend buying this model if you enjoy driving your RC without having to repair it regularly. It's sold on amazon as an entry level hobby grade RC but it falls short of the criteria making it so. On our second outting the 13 tooth plastic gear which mates up to a metal idler gear in the transmission stripped from landing a jump while full throttled. The Piranha lacks a slipper clutch which is the main reason this happens. Go read amazon reviews I am not the only one to have stripped this gear. The design is unforgiving of those new to RC cars and especially if you aren't mechanically inclined. I don't know why you would put weak plastic gears inside of the transmission because it forces you to disassemble the trans everytime this gear strips. If all the tranny gears were metal then the spur gear would be the one to strip which doesn't require major disassembly to replace. Or better yet, make a slipper clutch for this vehicle and save everyone a headache and build a better reputation for your company. I don't recommend anyone buy this RC truggy until redcat atleast offers an upgraded slipper clutch option and change part # BS709-043 (13 tooth plastic gear) to be an aluminum or steel gear.

Typical redcat garbage, shocks had very little oil and rub on the body so they just get stuck. The whole car feels very cheap. Definitely not worth the money.

Fun to drive no problems. Good battery life.compatible with most brands of tires and wheels(12mm hex)."Update" ran 2 7.4v 4500mah lipos no hicups.But the testament of tough is , i let my nephew drive it and it was run in front of a dunebuggy style gocart and got run over. I thought for sure it was crushed. Sad eyes brought me my truck and i looked at it snapped tie rid ends back on looked at semi wrinkled body dropped it back on the ground And she trucked on along.
Worth every penny!

I suppose the idea of entry level avoids certain buyers. This is indeed a good "entry level" when used with the provided batteries,. Purchased it for a young beginner and it works well with reasonable use, baseball fields, soccer fields, parks, parking lots, and even a little race track action. This will not be the fastest rc you'll buy but that's not it's intent. This was purchased elsewhere after a 6 year success story with its buggy counterpart that ended finally with the forward reverse trigger finally wearing out on the controller. Be reasonable with reasonable expectations and use the supplied batteries and you'll be happy at this price

This item is the worst rc vehicle I ever bought just a complete waste of money
