This is the Hangar 9 P-51D Mustang 60 ARF. Hangar 9’s P-51D is unlike most other Mustangs available. Built as a .60 sized airframe, the full size proportions are better and more accurately replicated since the extra large size of the airframe doesn’t suffer the scaling issues experienced by smaller .40 size models.
Fundamental to the authenticity of the Mustang is the Hangar 9 UltraCote trim scheme which accurately replicates (with the exception of the invasion stripes on the wings), Captain Freddie F. Ohr’s original P51 Mustang plane, including “kill markings”, “Marie” on the nose and the original ID markings on the tail. A fiberglass cowl, and molded "Merlin" exhausts compete the scale package.
Assembly time to complete the model is around twenty hours. Retracts are already installed in the wings, only the addition of the retract servo is necessary. Aileron servos mount in pre-cut servo bays in the wings and the rudder and elevator take direct servo linkages with corresponding pre-cut servo mounts in the tail. Positioning the servos right next to their corresponding control surfaces makes setting up throws, as well as checking and maintaining links much easier.
The flying characteristics of the Mustang are exceptional. Roll and yaw authority is excellent at slow speeds and during approach to landing. At high-speeds, using the recommended control throws the Mustang is equally solid. In pre-production testing the Mustang was really put through its paces; full-throttle loops and hard breaking turns time after time without a single accelerated stall. The plane tracked through every high-G maneuver as if it were on rails. Throughout the full spectrum of maneuvers, Hangar 9’s P-51D performed just like the full-size plane; high "G" dog fighting turns, low level strafing runs and the most beautiful slow victory rolls you could wish for.
