This is an optional E-flite Apprentice S Float Set. The E-flite Apprentice S floats are a great option that adds even more excitement to your RC flight experience. E-flite Apprentice S Float Set
These are great once you get them on, but holy crap they are less than stellar installing. First off, the quality of the screws that go in the plastic brackets on the floats is abysmal at best. You WILL strip the heads out. I recommend just using a good M2.5 socket head screw. The holes seem to be the perfect predrill size for an M2.5 to thread right in and stay tight.
The support wires that go between the corners of the vertical struts are going to have a bend in them when you install them. I guess that's just the way they are.
These are NOT easy to take on and off. Installation and removal requires the removal of the prop, cowling and disconnect/disassembly of the front nose gear and linkage. E-Flite would have been better off integrating a servo into one or both of the floats as the cable systems (really just a flexible wire in a tube) is not great. It works but it's not great. Dual rudders would have been nice too.
All of that being said. The Apprentice flies AMAZING with these floats. The CG is perfect with no changes and water landings are a breeze and look amazing. When taking off, accelerate quickly. The floats do not do well slowly speedy up. If you accelerate too slowly and stay on the water too long, the plane will start to porpoise. Accelerate quickly and get off the water.
