The Xtra Speed SCX10 II Steel Heavy Duty AR44 Helical Tooth Ring & Pinion Gear is a great option for anyone looking to overdrive the front end of the truck. The design features a spool style one piece 28 tooth ring gear and locker, combined with an 8 tooth pinion gear. Compared to the stock 30T/8T gear set, this gear will provide a subtle overdrive to the front wheels that would be similar to running the 36/14 overdrive in the front with the standard 38/13 gears in the rear in an AR60 style axle. These can be used in the rear axle as well, but will create a slightly taller gear ratio and increase the top end speed of the truck with a reduction in low end torque.

NOTE: Because the ring gear is smaller than the stock gear, it is critical that you shim the pinion gear to set the correct backlash. This is done by adding 5x7mm shims inside the housing between the pinion gear and the bearing. Failure to shim the pinion gear will lead to early failure. You should set the backlash tight and let the gears wear in to each other. It is also recommended that you use a high quality grease.

Buy ANY ar44 gears other than these. Which every way you shim these, these will bind and wear out really quickly. They seem like they have absolutely no hardening what so ever. These will be ruined after 5-10 runs. The other Xtra Speed (those without included locker) ar44 gears have worked marvellously, no problems what so ever. Do not buy these.

Going to have to second this as a negative review.
Even with shimming, I managed to strip the gears within the first battery pack, 2s and was only testing the speed of my motor and gearing for speed, which I am not trying to make it a racer as I am using a 35t motor.
Guess I will try one of the other options.
