One of my favorite vehicles. No problems at all, easy to pack and go, great for a beginner on 2s training mode, but very quick on a lightweight 3s battery. The stock tires are excellent and you will need to budget for these as they become sticky drift tires after 5-10 packs, depending on driving style. TSM helpful especially for braking. The car has rolled several times hitting unseen ice chunks at 45 or so thus far have had no problems. Naturally, you will need to run the car on smooth pavement asphalt carpet etc. Highly recommended.


Couple years later summer 23 I thought I'd add that's great you can now get the Mustang body for 60 bucks, it's beautiful. I just bought a second VXL and they're still great fun. I loved my first one and I love my second one. It is less expensive these days as well

Traxxas 4-Tec 2.0 VXL 1/10 Brushless RTR Touring Car Chassis (NO Body)
I am not a Traxxas fan boy, although I don't hate them either, I just feel most Traxxas models are expensive for what you get. However, I bought this when it was on sale and so far I really like it! A couple of notes, I have four Kyosho Fazers and a Losi V100 so I'll compare this car to those. Obviously with the brushless motor this thing is a missile. Unlike the Kyosho or the Fazer, this car requires some setting up, not complaining, just pointing this out. The shocks need spacers added and the front tires need to be adjusted with toe out, which is easy with the adjustable turn buckles. There are no toe in/out adjustable turn buckles in the rear. The tires are much stiffer than on the Kyosho and Losi, in fact I would say they are too hard. This is probably because Traxxas doesn't want customers to burn through a set of tires in one 3S battery pack. I don't bash, I actually try to drive my cars, so I will probably change the tires. Also the tires in front and rear are different sizes. One last thing the car seems quite a bit heavier than the Kyosho or Losi, I don't know if it is because of the large motor or what, but it seems really stout.

All in all I do like the VLX 4Tec, however, I would not have bought it if it wasn't on sale. I would recommend a Koysho over this unless you really want that brushless power.

Easily one of my favorite RC’s. Great for everything on road. Drift, race, speed runs and street bashing. ripping it back and forth up and down the street is pure enjoyment right down to low voltage cut.

Shipping was great from amain. Got here early. Car is pretty cool, really customizable and mod friendly. Good upgrades over the brushed version and there are many after market bodies available.
I got this to build a power sliding parking lot car and am satisfied with the result. 10 packs in and no major issues, had a bit of run away issue at first but I already had a link, so I adjusted the throttle settings. Could have been my fault because I swapped out to a 5ch.

Lot of fun overall, gets dirtier than my off-road cars lol. Docked 1 star because of plastic gears servo. Destroyed a few of these so far in other Traxxas models.

I fully enjoy this RC car , I have already added a lot of upgrades and used this almost every day
I have had no issues with this RC car
I over tightened one bolt and had to replace a part , but that was my fault
With all the aluminum parts available to upgrade this car
It was no problem,
That’s another thing , I wanted a car I could continuously upgrade like my own real car .

Just an absolutely awesome little machine. Traxxas makes a good product. Be mindful of using this thing with the speed gearing installed. It’s a land missile to say the least. Big, smooth flat surfaces suit this car well. I’d buy another one! Be careful with the tire though. Had one of the rubbers separate from the wheel at top speed. Little sketchy, but saved it from destruction ?. Awesome car! Buy one!

Awesome on road vehicle. I’m using a Traxxas Mustang body on it. One thing I have learned is: if a VXL version is available for any Traxxas vehicle, get it rather than the standard brushed model, it is totally worth the difference. Back to the 4-Tec VXL, so far I have only run it with the stock gearing and a 2S pack, very fast. I need to find a cement surface to try it on, on an asphalt parking lot, with the soft tires, it easily spun the tires and would drift and spin out. Soon will try on a cement basketball or tennis court.
