"I'm excited to be a part of the Tekno program!! I have driven the vehicles and have been very impressed with the speed, adjustability, and quality of the products. After spending some time with the crew behind the scenes, I was able to see how much commitment and passion goes into these vehicles." —Ryan Maifield

Tekno RC NB48 2.1 Overview:

Designed to push the limits of off-road racing

The Tekno NB48 2.1 builds off of the groundbreaking chassis platform of the NB48 2.0 by offering incredible rough track handling, extreme durability, ease of maintenance, and innovative design features. The Team at Tekno wanted to offer a major upgrade to the NB48 platform while also including never before seen features. With standard features on the NB48 2.1 such as revised shock towers, updated body, Ackermann spindle plates, offset brake cams, tall wing mount, more durable gearboxes, and chassis braces it's easy to see the incredible value offered with this buggy.

One of the major updates to the NB48 2.1 is the updated front end geometry. Lengthening the camber link is key to improving stability and predictability. With years of development, Tekno has been able to create a C-hub to accommodate a longer camber link bringing a significant improvement to the handling of this vehicle. Pairing this updated geometry with longer rear suspension arms that incorporate an adjustable roll center there is no doubt the NB48 2.1 offers an innovative design with performance to match.

Tekno RC NB48 2.1 1/8 Competition Off-Road Nitro Buggy Kit
This is my first nitro buggy build. I have to say it went together very smoothly. The instructions are top notch. Everything is explained throughout the manual. The kit came with everything. Out of all the cars I've built over the last 30 years, this was one of the best builds I've done. Electronics installation is a breeze. I highly recommend this kit!!

Tekno RC NB48 2.1 1/8 Competition Off-Road Nitro Buggy Kit
After 4 months, here is my review. I finally got used to the C-hub driving and I’m pretty happy with the handling and quality and would definitely recommend and buy again.

•The manual look and quality is top notch; however, instructions could be improved.
•Build quality is outstanding, BUT, for someone new to Tekno like me, the torque required to drive the screws into the plastic is way higher than on my Mugen MBX8-R. Many of the screws came lose after the first use. I concluded I didn’t tighten the screws enough afraid of striping the holes. I ventured to apply more hand torque and I finally got that feeling that the screw couldn’t go further down, indicating the joint was finally clamped. Take your own precautions and risks.
•Universal to CVD conversion part list or instructions not provided.
•The upper lever wire for the rear brake is too long that it will rub against the plastic ball joint of the carburetor linkage when the chassis flexes. I trimmed off ~3mm.
•The manual recommendation is to use the TKR5187B straight rod ends, but if you build the vehicle with the recommended droop in the setup sheet the wheel will rub against it. I changed to the non-straight rod ends included and the problem was fixed.
•Beware. The C-hub screws that keep the pins in place came loose after the first use even when I applied the threadlock included with the kit. I contacted tekno and they recommend cleaning the threads before applying threadlock.
•The servo saver nut should be tightened almost all the way down, which I found weird, when compared to the Mugen MBX8-R that is tightened only a few millimeters.
•I personally hate the screws with reversed threads used for the shocks. In the Mugen MBX8-R it is much easier, it uses pins kept in place with set screws.
•There isn’t enough room to fit two 18650 batteries. I dremeled the box to fit them.
•Wiring diagram is misleading. The green battery lead should go to the switch, not to the receiver. Only one orange line from the switch should go to the receiver, not two.
•Building the clutch is a pain. It was one of the more difficult steps building the kit. It is almost impossible to get the bolt TKR5353 thru. I eventually developed a “method” to get them thru but it was still a pain.
•It was confusing that part number TKR5353 is shown and mentioned in different places pointing to different components until I realized is a kit of washers, springs, pins, etc. So you don’t know what the notes are referring to. A a descriptor next to the part number would help.
•The special countersunk washer with a step for the clutch bell leaves a lot of axial play even if I used all the shims included are used. I throwed them away and replaced with a regular flat washer and a cap screw. I adjusted the axial play with only a few regular 5X8 shims.
•Fuel tubing is used as brake spring. I used NBR o-rings instead to get a more consistent and repeatable performance.
•The fit of the body is too tight on the sides I had to remove the Velcro (hook and loop) as it will difficult removing the body.
•I ordered the skid plate TKR9021 and it has no holes to attach the front flap to the plastic bumper. I had to drill some holes and put some M2 screws with nuts to prevent the flap of the skid plate to unfold with the impacts.
•Accessing the center differential is super easy.
•Accessing the front and rear differentials is not easy or quick. The sway bar cannot be removed from the plastic cover. I ended up removing the set screws from the sway bar ball joints and still not be able to remove because the sway bar would get stuck with the shocks, then I detached the shocks from the tower to finally be able to remove the cover.
