Over the past few years, the 17.5T spec 2WD class has become the most popular racing class in R/C racing. The 22 3.0 SR is the first buggy kit focused directly on delivering an ultra-high performance buggy specifically for the spec racing class. The buggy can easily be built under the ROAR and IFMAR minimum weight limit of 1499g right out of the box with normal electronics and a full sized ‘shorty’ Li-Po battery. Combine the innovative aluminum differential assembly with replaceable composite outdrives, the lightest direct drive system available, and aluminum CVA bones with lightened axles, the 22 3.0 SR provides all the performance a spec racer can hope for – and does it right out of the box.

  • Weighs in Under 1499 Grams: No expensive aftermarket parts are required to meet the minimum ROAR weight. Extra pockets milled into the chassis, along an assortment of lightweight parts, allow the 22 3.0 SPEC-Racer to be built using kit hardware and still weigh in under 1499 grams with all electronics installed. This gives racers the freedom to meet the ROAR minimum by using bigger, more powerful batteries or strategically adding ballast to maximize performance.
  • Lightweight Drivetrain: Major weight savings in the drivetrain let racers extract more effective torque and top speed from stock motors. The innovative ball differential, with its aluminum hub and composite outdrives, is 12.7g lighter than the stock diff. The TLR Direct Drive System weighs 9.3g less than a slipper assembly, and the aluminum driveshafts with lightened axles are 7.8g lighter than the stock steel CVAs. It all adds up to 29.8 grams of weight saved in the drivetrain alone.
  • Ultra Lightweight Body: The included body has the same cab-forward lines as the original 22 3.0 body but is made of lighter 0.5mm polycarbonate. This gives the buggy all the aerodynamic benefits of the original while saving over 20 grams of weight and lowering roll center at the same time.
  • Lightweight Motor Plate: A smaller motor plate designed specifically for the smaller spur gear sizes used in Spec-Class racing is included. It is CNC machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and paired with a polycarbonate gear cover to give racers the lightest and tidiest motor plate setup available.
  • Proven 22 3.0 Platform Features: The real genius in the 22 3.0 SPEC-Racer’s design is that team engineers were able to shave weight without sacrificing any of the most important features that make the standard 22 3.0 buggy such a dominating force in its class. Awesome car, bought from my lhs (sorry amain) and totally worth it. Fit and finish is great and manual is near spot on.
Yes converting to a laydown is spendy but to get a B6 to the level the 22 3.0 is at already your going to but a ton of upgrades. In the end they cost nearly the same(yes the 3.0 is slightly more in the end, but if 30 bucks or so is going to break the bank you better find a new hobby or better paying career)
Ignore all the haters, its a great car, some people just want to talk trash without actually giving you any real info.
Bottom line if you want a great car you won't have to spend a ton to upgrade get a 22 3.0 SR.
If you like buying hopups and monkeying with your car regularly get a B6
Or get a yoko and have everyone ask whats that..
Or get a xray and have people call you mr moneybags..

i bought this buggy about three weeks ago this is my first personal mid motor buggy. i drive on carpet for the most part and every once in a while on clay. i have put a good solid two days in a row driving this buggy on carpet. i am running a viper 17.5 and a hobbywing v3.1 stock spec in blinky mode. i am geared 31/69 and have enough torque to wheely with a fresh battery. i have had the opportunity to drive a team associated b5m, b6 carpet, tlr 22 3.0, and kyosho rb6. i am no rooky when it comes to tuning an rc car and on thing i can say about this car is that it is very smooth around the track but very responsive at the same time i am able to push this car through the turns as hard as the car will allow. the car jumps and lands very clean and i have done nothing but play with shock position. this car is allowing me to put down laps in the the 19 second range with a fast lap of 19.1. the car has only broken one part when it collided with a mod buggy head on. i have had zero problems with the ball diff out drives even though the are a composite. one thing i absolutely love about this car is how quiet it is compared to other buggies on the track.

I also got my Sr from a local hobby store for outdoor dirt tracks.
Iv spent hundreds and hundreds on my b6d to make it 17.5 capable, I wish they have made this vehicle sooner because you don't need to spend an extra cent on chassis equipment like my b6d.
iv spent a lot on the b6/b6d, shock bodies shock parts and internals, old chassis needs replacing Exotek slipper delete aluminium shafts. the Sr has it all in the box plus more it's worth every cent and its dialed with my setup.
I run the reedy sonic m3 at 69/30 @42deg timing.
Team associated springs work better white/black with 25wt oil on all fours.
Team Losi have hit a home run with this one congrats to the team.

Couldn't pass up the protek deal, and was curious about these lightweight drivetrains. Built this along side a 22 4.0, built SR to the manual except for brass front pivot, (running on Astro). 4.0 was built for carpet/Astro, didn't expect much from this reading other reviews, but wow, this this was great, just couldn't get rear as low as I wanted, will have to try a different spring. I was thinking it can't be good for Astro, shocks on rear of rear A-arms, stand up trans, battery doesn't go too far forward, no HRC or + parts, (raised up parts to get center of gravity lower), but I was amazed at how this thing did everything great, jumping, landing very predictable, great cornering. Really impressed me.... my opinion, I've owned the original 22 and 22sct, and then later 22 2.0 all for a short time, they were all rear motor, I just always went back to associated, but these new TLR buggys changed my mind, I'll be keeping these for a long time.

Quick and nibble car for the dirt. I have not raced it on the carpet locally but several do and often win even against the B6 last week a box stock RS3.0 (set up for carpet) won by a lap so it is a very capable car

I received this car after it was back ordered along with a exotec laydown trans. I also purchased a B6 just before the 3.0 SR came out. Ill compare the two buggies so you get an idea of the differences. FYI I race primarily on high traction tracks.

The losi was a pleasure to build. everything went together smoothly as expected and I built the car watching Frank Roots tutorial on Facebook and rarely opened the manual. Shocks are glassy smooth, as expected, and they made some nice upgrades to the rear end with the SR racer in mind. I chose to by the exotec trans versus the conversion. For the price difference, I was willing to drill two holes in the chassis to make the exotec work. With the instructions it came with, it was a breeze to install.

I was dead set on running the gear diff I had taken out of my old 2.0 rear buggy, but I decided to take a chance and build it with the ball diff instead. The diff is ultra light and really smooth. Simple to build and I believe it will work very well for stock. I am running a tekin 17.5 with an upgraded rotor and I believe it should make this car fly!

I disliked the fact the car doesn't come with the laydown as an option but I was willing to spend the money to make it a laydown racer. The b6 obviously comes with the laydown and at my local track, this makes a big difference. The b6 comes with the gear diff and the 3.0 SR does not. I don't think this will be a big deal in stock class however if I was running mod, I would prefer a gear diff set up. The losi differential and new out drives seem to be lighter which will in turn be faster then the b6.

I haven't ran this car yet but I can tell its going to be a top qualifier. I did not have any issues building this car. In closing, I would highly recommend this car to anyone who want a top notch racer.


1/24/2017 updated review

I ran this buggy for the first time at Beachline Raceway in Cocoa Florida.

On AstroTurf, the box set up wasn't even close. I didn't do well and was not impressed with the handling. If you research, all of the factory guys are running the rear shocks in the front. Losi should admit to a design flaw.

I went the following weekend to set the car up and the rear axles kept popping out. Then I noticed small chips in the outdrives thier self. HORRIBLE DESIGN Imo.

With that said, I just sold it for a fraction of the cost and am buying another B6. I would not recommend the losi 22 3.0sr. This car is nothing more than the regular 3.0, but with cheap garbage parts. Very disappointed.

lol I find the price point on this car to be a joke news flash!! Your paying more $ for thinner composite parts and people will buy it so sad.
