Limited Edition Nomad DB8 Brushless RTR LiPo Combo

Born from the sand and destined to roam the earth, the NOMAD DB8 is a tough, powerful, all-terrain dominating Desert Buggy based on the race-proven RC8 platform’s unprecedented balance and incredible cornering performance. The NOMAD DB8 form follows function with a durable impact-resistant roll cage, detailed interior, driver and co-pilot figures, painted body panels, and runs off a powerful Reedy brushless motor. To tame the unforgiving landscape, high-grip General Tire GT Grabbers are wrapped around rich-looking black 17mm hex wheels.

Features:

  • The Nomad DB8 uses a strong and efficient metal-gear 4WD drivetrain to send power to the ground. Managing that power are tunable front, center and rear fluid-filled differentials and Grabber tires.
  • Smoothing out the forbidding terrain is the same durable, tuned and proven suspension used on the RC8 line of vehicles.
  • Dampening the rough landscape are four oil-filled shocks designed for smooth and consistent operation.
  • At the heart of this nomadic desert buggy are Team Associated’s XP and Reedy electronics. All are installed in the DB8 chassis, allowing easy access to the receiver, steering servo and the new 4s Reedy electronic speed control (with reverse).
  • Two screen-printed body color schemes are available. Bodies are mounted to a roll cage, with a detailed driver and co-pilot.
  • Water-resistant enclosed receiver box.
  • The ASC80941C Limited Edition Nomad DB8 LiPo Combo includes a Reedy 4S 14.8V LiPo Battery & Reedy 324-S Compact LiPo Battery Charger.
  • Also available without battery & charger (ASC80941)

Team Associated Limited Edition Nomad DB8 RTR Combo (Green)
First. I love the Nomad. Great design and the 4S really provides the whammy when you punch it. I'm also running a 3S when I want to throw less dirt and gain some control. With 4S on pavement the tires will begin to ballon at full throttle. You really need to carefully adjust the steering trim/range for the terrain you're on. Otherwise it'll roll really easy. I got rid of the military green panels, replacing with the clear panel kit after painting with brighter colors.

Background. Had some difficulty with the order. Received a shipment that had broken factory seals that were taped over. I'm guessing another customer returned their purchase and Amain shipping just resealed the box. The vehicle and remote were 'floating' freely in the box (no tie downs) and a little banged up. AND there was oil all over the bottom of the box and inside and around the chassis of the Nomad. There was obvious/noticable leakage from the front, center, and rear differentials. I called Amain, and after providing pictures the issued a full authorization to return, exchange or get a refund.

I chose to get a replacement. Apparently Team Associated wants all warranty claims to be handled by TA, not Amain. However, because I received a customer return A Main was able to treat it as a return, not warranty.

About 10 days later I got a new, factory fresh Nomad. Unfortunately the rear differential was leaking on this model. No where's near as bad as with the first one, but still a disappointment. I Contacted Associated vial email and within hours got a reply. I supplied them with a copy of my invoice and they arranged for me to get full rebuild kits for the middle and rear diffs.

Apparently there are issues where a small shim/washer can be misaligned at assembly and will leak. I offered to do the rebuild myself rather than another return. I've worked on Associated Kits since the original RC10 (decades ago) and am comfortable doing my on rebuilds.

I'm satisfied with the product in all regard as well as the way AMain handled the exchange. It's certainly annoying to have to deal with problems and exchanges, but nice to know there are businesses that understand their mistakes and willing to make good on purchases.
