The Tamiya Neo Scorcher TT-02B 1/10 4WD Electric Buggy Kit is a re-release of the popular Scorcher, a quick 4WD racing buggy from the late-1980s Tamiya line. The updated body draws from the original Scorcher for inspiration, and is made from durable polycarbonate with a stylish large rear wing. This body can be decorated with the minimum of fuss thanks to the large stickers included. It runs on the easy-assembly shaft-driven 4WD TT-02B, and marries the chassis' controllability with square spike tires for superior grip on rough surfaces. This specific kit includes a Hobbywing THW-1060 Brushed ESC for incredible performance.

Shaft-Driven 4WD and Superior Handling from the TT-02B
The shaft-driven 4WD TT-02B buggy chassis uses a skid-shaped frame. Its suspension setup uses 4-wheel independent double wishbone suspension with long arms, plus CVA shock units, giving the car sure footed handling, while left and right suspension arms and uprights are identical to facilitate hassle-free assembly. Front and rear gearboxes include 4-bevel differentials for smooth operation, and are sealed to ensure that dust can't get inside. The top can be removed simply by loosening four screws, making maintenance a breeze. Four different gear ratios can be applied with the use of three separately-sold types of pinion gears, allowing you to match the characteristics of your car setup to the conditions at any given time. Of course, this off-road chassis also includes receiver case and motor cover to protect them from dirt and debris thrown up off of the track.

Tamiya Neo Scorcher 1/10 4WD Electric Buggy Kit (TT-02B)
I've had this buggy for over a year, and I know this chassis (and its variations) like the back of my hand.

First off, one thing you will read is that it will never stack up against any modern buggy, and that is an accurate statement. The plastic material, slop, lack of a slipper clutch, and even motor placement of this car just doesn't work well against the modern thoroughbred race buggies.

Though, what it lacks in performance, it more than makes up for in build experience and character. This was my first hobbygrade RC buggy, and this kit certainly held my hands and made this such a pleasant experience. The instructions are clear, and the build was simple.

It also has a lot of value as a dark horse/sleeper race buggy. I also modified this buggy and took it to a race. To my surprise, I didn't get last place. I doubt it would ever win an A main, but after the right mods, it can be pretty competitive.

Here are the mods I used:
TAM54500 - High speed spur kit - This allows the installation of 48p spur gears.
Yeah racing motor mount - This allows the installation of 48p pinion gears.
TAM53791 - Universal shafts - you need to buy two sets as they come as a pair. (you will also need the small aluminum outdrives to fit these onto the diff)
Turnbuckles everywhere (including servo mechanism)
Aluminum steering rack (there are many)
TAM53793 - rear wheel hubs - gives you rear toe
Ball bearings everywhere. There is a kit.

Overall, I love this buggy. I love it to death. It will forever by my favorite buggy, and (for lack of better terms) I know that it will never be a "corvette" on the track, but I love seeing my crummy "99' civic" on the track giving the racers a good run for their money.
