Tamiya Honda NSX-GT 2005 Body Set (Clear) (Lightweight)
*Note: While not purchased from Amain, the review below is my experiences based on this product.

I had purchased this body set for my TT-02 as I had started to evolve my chassis from a drifter to class racer. Watching someone on YouTube building a Kyosho Fazer for USGT inspired me to also consider building my own chassis specifically for that class. Unfortunately, reading the class requirements and regulations online, while I had a eligible body, a Tamiya Ford Mustang GT4, it had become too far gone to use as it was my previous drifting body. So began a long arduous task of finding another eligible body.

Long story short, I came across this very body set a few times and never really jumped at it until it kept selling out everywhere. Seriously, every time I’d see it for sale, I’d wait it out and right when I was about to buy it, it’s sold out again. And again… And again… Until I was able to find this body locally and for a good price. I know this is a needless story but I must emphasize just how sought after these bodies truly are in that you must buy it when you see them!

Anyway, to the build. This body DOES NOT INCLUDE MASKING OR DECALS! In other words: YOU MUST MASK THIS BODY YOURSELF WITH TAPE AND HOPE IT COMES OUT GOOD!!!

For masking, I HIGHLY recommend using Tamiya masking tape as it is the ONLY tape that’s thin enough to conform to the body without much paint bleed or creases. If you’re planning to do a two-tone paint scheme (like a “street” NSX Type R), use Tamiya tape for curves around the area that splits the body from the canopy.

Cutting out this body is very easy with is aided by the thickness of this shell. While .2mm may not seem that much, it’s enough to notice. The way your scissors will easily cut this body may surprise you, both good AND bad. The rear diffuser area of note can be very tricky to cut out. This is where the score, fold and tear method will come in handy. However… cutting out this area will expose quite A LOT of detail under the body and on my TT-02, really makes the body feel too exposed. If you’re like myself and don’t enjoy the rest being too exposed, you can either build your own “display only” diffuser out of thin styrene or put a giant Tamiya intercooler (from the “Touring Car Dress Up Parts” kit) and mount it on the rear body posts.

Speaking of body posts, be aware that the front of the car may require bumper mounted posts like that of the TA05 and TB-Evo or the body will not sit low enough as the “hood” will bottom out on the shock towers on chassis like the TT-01 and TT-02. Speaking from experience and having to buy two different front posts in order for the body to actually look good on my TT-02R clone.

All in all, the experience of building this body has taught me many valuable skills like making my own masks among other things. I honestly wouldn’t recommend this body to anyone who has never painted an RC body before as this is a very challenging body to mask and does require A LOT of tape along with patience.

Lastly before I leave, reproduction decals for this body set ARE available through MCI Racing in Canada though don’t expect the decals to be anything like an original set of Tamiya ones as they’re not marked by number and are printed on rather stretchy Oracal vinyl and can look really bad if you’re not used to it. It’s an added cost but worth it if you need detail in your body.

If you’re considering this body, make sure you know what you’re getting into first as this one is not for beginners!
