The SSD Trail King/SCX10 II AR44 Overdrive 6-Bolt Ring Gear Set is an optional CNC machined, hardened steel upgrade for AR44 and SSD Pro44/Pro Diamond style axles. This gear is a great way to improve performance and durability with 10% overdrive, and a heavy duty 6-bolt mount that increases strength.

The machining on the hole where the grub screw goes on the pinion\input gear looks like it was done by Stevie Wonder. Otherwise seems fine.

Install was good ran pretty smooth for a bit. Second time out (total of 4 hrs runtime by now) I went to hop a ledge and snapped the pinion in half right at the grub screw hole. If you plan on babying your rig then it’s good, if you plan on using it then I’d go for something hardened.

Installed them in the Pro44 Offset Axle and they fit really well.
Run perfectly smooth. No shims needed in my case.

The gears are better quality than the stock sintered metal Axial gears, but do require some significant break-in to get smooth enough to use. Shim them so you have a little bit of backlash, then run them full speed in forward and reverse for ~15sec at a time until they smooth out. Then they work perfectly!

Installed in SSD Pro44 pumpkin with zero issues.

Did require more attention to detail over the Stock sintered Axial gears in the shimming department.

Make sure to check tolerances with driveshaft installed as well as the bearing retainers, should have no issue once shimmed correctly.

Did not work on my stock ar44 axles. Tried shimming the input gear, didn’t work. The mesh was too tight and was unusable without further modifications. After many attempts a lots of research I couldn’t make it work so I decided to go back to stock.

As others have had ,these gears Bind and are very notchy! Shimming and backing off third member I was able to get somewhat smooth rotation.

Junk tried several different ways shimming pinion and spool but it remained sticky in the rotation.
