Redcat RDS - Competition RWD Drift Car Chassis

The Redcat RDS Competition Spec 1/10 2WD Drift Car Builders Kit offers a highly adjustable and high performance drift platform, whether your a veteran drifter or just starting. Using a competition inspired design the RDS platform provides a solid base with the ability to fine tune the driving characteristics to your liking. By using premium features such as a carbon fiber chassis, adjustable motor positions, multiple shock mounting locations and a plethora of suspension geometry adjustments it's easy to see how the RDS is a must have for the drift enthusiast.

Designed with competition in mind by the seasoned drift drivers, the RDS has been developed to give you the edge you need at the track. Through rigorous testing Redcat was able to specifically cater the RDS platform to excell on prepped surfaces such as P-Tile and polished concrete as most drift tracks will use these surfaces. With that in mind the RDS design can easily adapt to less than ideal surfaces such as unpolished concrete or asphalt with it's incredible amount of chassis adjustments.

The RDS chassis is completely adjustable allowing the user to fine tune the chassis to best suit your driving style and surface. The motor plate can be mounted in three different positions, altering the car’s chassis roll and weight bias. This can adjust the amount of traction and chassis roll the RDS has on different surfaces. The RDS has multiple steering link positions and a sliding Ackermann plate, making it easy to fine tune the Ackermann. The RDS is loaded with tuning capabilities that will suit even the most advanced drivers.

Redcat RDS Competition Spec 1/10 2WD Drift Car Builders Kit
I picked up the RDS as my first RWD drift car. My local indoor off road track opened up a p-tile track for 1/10 rwd drift and I wanted to get in on the fun. The chassis kit builds well, things are still on parts trees so be prepared with some sharp flush cutters. The manual is easy enough to follow and the screws needed for each step are printed on the page at almost 1/1 scale. Parts were easy to locate in their respective bags. Shocks are smooth, hinge pins had no binding.

The main issues I ran into were: 1, the gear diff needed shimming laterally within the gearbox housing as well as the outdrives needed to be shimmed to remove excess play. 2, the knuckles are not specifically listed as a left or right, so when I first built it I had them swapped and it made for a poor driving car. (Bonus with the knuckles, the built in steering stops will ultimately need to be snipped off if you want to get more steering angle) 3, depending on your servo, the horn/steering plate may contact the bulkhead and you'll have to trim the plastic bulkhead to allow the servo horn the room to move through it's travel. 4, the factory ball cups are stiff, I recommend popping them on and off a few times to break them in and get them freed up.

Since I drive it strictly at a p-tile track, the kit setup is not ideal, especially with the low motor and conservative steering angle. Thankfully an alternate setup sheet is located on the Redcat RDS Drift FB group that has been provided by one of the engineers behind the car (who also happens to own an RC drift track and hobby shop). It transformed the car and with some further shock/diff oil tuning (10wt in the shocks and 3k diff) it can lay down some sick lines and keep up with rest of them.

I think it's a solid choice for a simplified RWD drift chassis. It's pretty no frills (even though it's got some carbon fiber goodies) as it's a fairly simple design compared to it's competitors but from what I've seen and learned, it's design is not holding the car back. Time will tell how the plastic parts hold up in the long run, but for now it's gonna stay mostly stock as it really doesn't need much to get you banging doors with everyone on track. Definitely stoked I bought this and will happily recommend it if you have a local track with knowledgeable people to help you get dialed in.

Redcat RDS Competition Spec 1/10 2WD Drift Car Builders Kit
Let's say that, Redcat do a good job with this drift kit. Because I have another Redcat gen7. I was checking the idle gear especially both and are the same transmission idle gears. In the future I can replace both for metal to increase weight on the back and the diff for I can see is similar the Losi s22. The shafts use the spur gear holder is 5mm, if you want ti make this kit in drag racing they have the possibility and potential for that. Long time I wanted touring 1/10 in red this kit is a great opportunity for that, and possibly you can change the transmission for another
