Redcat Volcano EPX 1/10 Electric 4WD Monster Truck
This truck is not the fastest but it’s fun. On the brushed system nothing broke. Putting brushless electronics in it really brought it to life. It is really tough except for the brushings which wore down and the plastic hexes. I replaced the plastic hexes with redcat’s aluminum hexes and then stripped out 3 wheels. Don’t buy their aluminum hexes (02134B) they wear down really easy. The battery is junk. The battery tray is designed for nihm batteries but I just strap in lipos. The front dogbones do pop out after hitting something or under high rpms but that only happens every now and then not immediately. The two rear shock shafts bent and started leaking after jumping it 20 feet high (not recommended). I also accidentally jumped it in to a tree at full speed and nothing broke. I’ve had this truck for a few years and besides the usual wear I really like it.

Redcat Volcano EPX 1/10 Electric 4WD Monster Truck
As an owner of the Blackout XTE (converted to castle brushless) I can say this Volcano is a huge disappointment. This thing out of the box is slower than my Blackout was before I converted it. Something is wrong with the Front geometry as the Axles are 2-3mm short, they stay put under nimh/brushed but fall out the instant you push the throttle on a brushless setup, and I mean immediately. So I order the shafts with the integrated ujoint leaving one less cup to fall out of. This did not fix the problem. I have been trying to extend those using methods I seen on a you tube video, don't do that. It is a huge waste of time. Bring them to a machine shop to be welded. On the rear of this thing their also is no toe adjustment. Before going the route of extending the shafts I ordered the Hop Up kit, figuring the tolerances were better and the shafts would fit. I would say it helped in the rear.
The servo's aren't high torque, the cheaper traxxas servo I just put on it works way better. The Volcano chassis is configured to not allow LiPO batteries to fit under the clamp, I use velcro rap. I guess for $180 with a battery, it's OK. But it is no where near as good as the Blackout which is also $180 with a battery. With all the money in parts and components I've spent thus far, I should have just got something better.

I seen that review about the battery being garbage, not really. They work great on my blackout. I think the volcano may just be just a little too heavy for NiMH.

As stated earlier I own both Blackout and Volcano. One more fun fact, don't use the stock controller/receiver with a brushless upgrade. I made that mistake because I didn't want to have to buy another spektrum controller, after putting the drive shaft back in three times the wheel melted off. If it weren't for the shaft problem, a controller with a throttle limit and LiPo, would make this truck OK. BUT, I tried extensively to get the right size shaft. No one who buys an RTR should have to take their dogbone to a machine shop to be lengthened.
