The P-51D from Rage RC is a classic airplane that delivers a wide flight envelope to suite the needs of beginner and intermediate RC pilots. Thanks to it's EPP foam construction, the P51-D can handle a good amount of dings, bangs, and unplanned landings. This package is completely ready to go, and includes everything needed to get into the air in about 1 hour of time, as only minor assembly is required. Beginner pilots can rest at ease thanks to the included PASS (Pilot Assist Stability Software) that adds three levels of added control to the plane - full Assist, Partial Assist, or No Assist (system off). These modes can be easily toggled on or off from the radio in flight. Additionally, with the PASS system enabled, stunts are as easy as a press of a button. With a quick tap, the plane can complete either a loop or a roll, if you're looking to show off your skills in flight.

Features:

  • Made from light, durable EPP foam
  • Stunt button on transmitter for aerobatics like loops and rolls

RAGE P-51D Mustang Micro Warbirds RTF Electric Airplane (400mm)
Let me start off by saying these Rage brand of warbirds that include the Mustang, Corsair and Trojan, also marketed by companies or names such as Eachine, Volantex, Leambe, Bang Good, etc, are toy grade aircraft. Now, in the R/C world, toy-grade R/C vehicles are generally looked down upon. They're generally fragile, have low performance, can't be upgraded and there usually aren't spare parts to assist with the eventual repairs. The Rage War Birds, being toy-grade, don't offer any upgrades, don't have many spare parts for repairs, but what they DO offer is startling performance and durability for being toy-grade airplanes.

Here's the deal: if you're curious about getting into R/C planes you have some options available to you. First, you can find a local flying club and try to get in with their people. If you're lucky, you find a group and they will help introduce you to R/C planes and hopefully flying. Another option, is you do some research and buy a "beginner" plane in an RTF (ready to fly) configuration. Here are the problems with those options. You may not have a local flying group in your area, or you're otherwise unable to join up with a local flying group. Secondly, you buy the "beginner," hobby-grade airplane that is a solid aircraft and electronics platform, but it's going to cost you hundreds of dollars and you may decide you don't like flying after all. Or, the worst case scenario sees you crashing the plane and throwing your money into the garbage with the wreckage of your plane.

This is where the Rage War Birds come in. To begin with, they're War-Birds, and every aspiring pilot wants to eventually own and pilot a war-bird; it's probably the reason why most of us even thought of flying an R/C plane. For being 400 mm sized planes, they look great! Secondly, with their 6 way gyro stabilization they are just as stable, forgiving and easy to fly as any hobby grade, "real" R/C aircraft that probably costs hundreds of dollars more. It's not SAFE technology, but it functions just the same. Third, these Rage War Birds are TOUGH. Crashes are a fact of R/C life and I have nose-dived, cart wheeled, flipped and had all sorts of sudden-ground encounters with all three of these birds and they either shrugged off the incident, or, lost a little paint over it. I had one particularly bad accident with my Mustang and all it took was some foam glue and then it was in the air again in the next 24 hours. I also have to mention their "prop-saver" feature: if any sort of stress impacts the propeller on these planes then the propeller pops off. That's not to say they won't break at all, but with the prop-saver feature the likelihood of breaking a propeller as well as the motor shaft is reduced. Finally, these birds are capable of agile flight. Remember that these planes are four channel birds! Rudder, elevator, throttle and AILERONS! Even on their "SAFE" mode they climb, bank, descend, and handle just like any "hobby grade" R/C plane does; their movement in the air will NOT disappoint and they may even surprise you.

Now, because these birds are "toy grade" and they are very light, 400 mm sized planes, there is but one limitation that I think is worth mentioning, and that is the wind. I have flown these birds in 10 mph, possibly 12 mph winds, but it was precarious and I could tell that the birds and I were at the limits of our abilities. You have to be mindful of the wind speeds and behaviors. A friend took his Corsair up too high and he claims that the winds literally carried his plane away. Maybe he could've saved it, maybe he should've kept it lower, who knows; but you have to be careful because of these birds' micro size. Another thing: forget about the landing gear. These planes are too light and don't have the power to roll themselves through anything but the flattest, most perfect terrain. Any bump or hiccup in the terrain and they will nose over/crash/etc. Accept the fact that you will have to fly in a place that will allow you to safely belly land these birds.

In summary, these toy grade War Birds are NOT a bad choice if you want to try your hand at R/C flight and don't have a local flying group and/or the money or the desire to invest into a hobby grade plane that might cost hundreds of dollars and might end up in the junkyard anyway. These micro birds will teach you the basics of flight and getting used to controlling an R/C airplane. For me, I have decided that I will go even deeper into R/C flight and have now purchased a Mini Apprentice, but I will not forget what these awesome little planes have done for me, by introducing me into the world of R/C flight in an inexpensive, relatively low-risk, yet highly entertaining War Bird themed radio controlled aircraft. Buy them!

RAGE P-51D Mustang Micro Warbirds RTF Electric Airplane (400mm)
Great budget RTF! This is my second rage, i started wuth the P-40. I had some issues with the alerons being twitchy but after a stability reset and moving the control horn links to the lowest hole all the shaking stopped. Flys super nice and scale. I was able to jump right into PASS off as it flys so well. The silver looks great in the sun, and i also repainted over the yellow and the red in some areas with regular testors aluminum color paint and it worked nicely. Highly recommend for rusty old fliers and new alike. The PASS features in middle position give you freedom and safety. Amazon has 5-packs of batterys as well!
