Pro-Line Chisel 2.2" Rock Crawler Tires w/Memory Foam (2)

I've tried several popular crawler tires over the past few years. Not all, but quite a few of them. The Chisels became my go-to tire a few years ago and have remained in that spot for several reasons.

First, they aren't affected very much by temperature. They stick great when it's warm out and they stick just a tiny bit less than great when it's bone-chilling cold. All the other tires I tried had temp ranges where they worked well, but once the temp was outside that range, traction fell off rapidly. I'd put the Chisels back on and my crawler would easily climb what the other tires simply could not.

Second, while the G8 compound is extremely soft and pliable, they last a LONG time. I've been running my Chisels for roughly 2-1/2 years now, first on my AX10 and now on my XR10. Only now are the treads of the rears starting to look a bit worn on the front edges. So I swapped sides with the rear wheels (put the left on the right and vice versa). This reversed the tread direction and gave me new edges to use and the Chisels work like brand new again. I guess I get to use them for another couple years. I'm definitely getting my money's worth out of them.

Third, they don't pinch, a persistent problem I had with Rovers when running inclines on rock with sharp edges.

On my AX10, I found that the dual-layer ProLine oversized foams worked best, but have found that the regular OS mem foams that come with the Chisels work best on my XR10. Probably due to the fact that my AX10 wheels are weighted a whole lot more than the wheels on my XR10.

I love the height of the Chisel and that its width is a good proportion to that height.

I've not found another tire that works well across the range of surfaces and conditions that the Chisel does. If I was going to have only one crawler tire, it would still definately be the Chisel.

J. Awesome review, this is what we need, thourough reviews, thank you! I have also experienced the difference between the Comp Claws and the Chisels first hand. My buddy has the G8's on a Losi Comp Crawler and I was running the Comp Claws and the Hot Bodies Rovers. I have to say that the G8's not only exhibited superior traction but they last a lifetime apparently. We beat our trucks for about 3 days straight on Granite in a dam area near Black River Falls WI and the Chisels showed almost no wear where the Claws were obviously worn and almost needed to be rotated already. The chisels are soft, so sidehilling as you said is perhaps a bit more of a challenge but not too bad. The tradeoff for the small difference in sidehilling is better traction, wear, and clearance, I think that is a fair trade for a superior performing tire overall. I would encourage people to have a set of these in their bag. I still like the Claws, but as J said, if I could only have one set, I would have the Proline Chisel G8's.

These tires live up to all the hype. I upgraded from the stock tires to these on my Ridgecrest. I noticed an immediate improvement in traction. The most noticeable improvement was when the tire was unloaded. Even when the wheel was bouncing up off the track and barely in contact with the ground it would bite. On top of everything else they look great.

The Chisels: tall and skinny tires, in real life are the very best on most terrain, they out last, and out perform any other tire out there, they have a full 5/32" tread and stand 5 7/16" tall with original inserts, yea I know we all have our own styles... yet, you will never know the difference until you try a set of these fantastic tires, the characteristics can be changed with stiffer inserts.. depending on your driving habits, yet tall and skinny is the best application for these.
