O.S. Speed .21 VZ-B V-Spec II 08/09 Worlds Edition Competition Buggy Engine
I have been GRP faithful since they came out. I decided to try something different and purchased this OS engine. All I can say is wow what an engine. It performs flawlessly. Break in was not tough and the power in my 8T 2.0 is perfect. I highly recommend this engine.

Same experience as others. Great power but cracked case after 3 gallons. OS offered discount on a replacement. I hope OS reads these reviews because they obviously need to address this issue.

O.S. Speed .21 VZ-B V-Spec II 08/09 Worlds Edition Competition Buggy Engine
I have long been wondering if this engine was worth the hype but in a world where state of the art Italian engines are available at less than $400, I never paid $500+ to find out. During the winter of this year, I came across to a brand new one at a 50% discount close-out sale. I didn’t miss the opportunity.

I have recently installed it on my new Serpent Cobra buggy and broke it in by heat cycling, giving it the care that high-end engines deserve. Then, I leaned it out gradually and finally, I race tuned it after 1 ½ gallons of Byron 25% nitro fuel went through the engine.

With standard head shim, P3 plug, largest venturi and 2060 pipe set; it does deliver fantastic low-end grunt and it climbs to terrific revs through a linear, controllable power band. Head temp remains within 200 - 230°F range despite hot and humid conditions. It can idle all day long. Tuning is straightforward and steady.

When it comes to its factory tuned rivals from Novarossi, Sirio and RB that I have experience with; I can neither say it is superior nor inferior in terms of performance. Only a dynamometer can reveal that and this wouldn’t really matter for the driver. Besides, the difference would most likely be in favor of one engine in one aspect (low-end power, or peak power, or peak rpm, etc.) and in favor of another one in another aspect. What matters for me is that this engine does deliver similar performance to the best from Italy. With gearing and tune for a track with very long straight, fuel consumption also seems to be on par with its above mentioned rivals.

At only 2+ gallons so far, I can’t comment on its durability, yet. The front bearing does not leak now. It is moist, if not –acceptably- wet. If it requires a front bearing replacement soon, I wouldn’t care much because even a ceramic one doesn’t cost more than 3 glow plugs. I mean, at this level of performance, I can accept even the front bearing as a consumable item but of course, the internals are a different story. I will see how long they will last.

Performance wise, it does merit 5 stars. Considering its price tag (and assuming that it is durable) I rate it by 4 stars.

O.S. Speed .21 VZ-B V-Spec II 08/09 Worlds Edition Competition Buggy Engine
I used this for my buggy last year. smooth. easy to turn. and I got it from HongKong for 400USD, the 2060 pipe was amazing. but I love engine from italy more than the engine from japan. so in this year, I'm return to RB,just get my B10 with 2045 from china at last week. I like RB because one for long time, but I need to say, the carburator from OS was amazing too, very long run time.

O.S. Speed .21 VZ-B V-Spec II 08/09 Worlds Edition Competition Buggy Engine
Haha to all those claiming to have blown the engine up in 2-2.5 gallons how were your running them? It's true the engine is no nova and doesn't get 12-14 gallons on it but at minimum they're getting a solid 8. Break them in properly keep your filters clean and do regular cleaning of the engine and it will last. These engines rock

Kevin Bacher: Sorry my friend, But you are dead wrong. I will buy 10 000 of these OS engings anytime. O.S has been around for many years in the engine manufacture game and for you to say or give advices to people on this review, Not to buy an os vz-b v-spec 2 engine you are sadly mistaken. Dude I have os engines that my father give me that he had before I was even born and they still have compressiolike if he brought them yesterday, for many years. I will recommend os engine for there reliability to any rc modelist anytime. Buying an osengine is like buying a honda or toyota. RELIABILITY ANYTIME!!!!!!!!! -//- It's Ok Danny Boy. We all understand, You have a long-way to go when it come to RC model engines. Let me tell you something, Os engines has been in the model engines for many years before you and I was even born. Thats how long Os has been in the model engine game and for you to say that you have a lot of problems with Os engines you like I said you have a long way to go. I have many Os engines from the 70's and 80's and those engines still run today like if I just brought them yesterday, with alot of compression. I will spend $800 on an Os engine anytime just because they are so reliable. $5.30 you say, worth all the penny's for this engine.

O.S. Speed .21 VZ-B V-Spec II 08/09 Worlds Edition Competition Buggy Engine
I have several gallons on mine so far and still has tight compression. Power output is linear and smooth and the build quality is second to none. One of the other things that makes this engine attractive is its ability to be rebuilt over and over with relatively inexpensive ($110 my my LHS) Piston/Sleeve/Rod. The coated crank makes this possible.

All of that said, I bought mine new-in-box for $300 from a fellow racer. It's the best engine I've ever owned, but I can't justify the $500 price and I don't foresee myself buying one at full price in the future. I'm not a top-level competitor, just a club-level hobbyist.

Like with the standard V-Spec, a 5-star rating all the way.

O.S. Speed .21 VZ-B V-Spec II 08/09 Worlds Edition Competition Buggy Engine
I found the engine to have good mileage and good power. Very smooth and consistant. You easily can run down people on a long straight. 2-2.5 gallons before the motor went south. Same issues that everyone else has had.
I rated it in the middle because of cost vs motor life.

I also have this engine. I must say really, the quality ist wonderful, but the fuel consumption is a bit too high. (I use the Muffler OS 2060)
Perhaps it is not runnig in completely , only 3 Liter. I hope, it will be even better.

O.S. Speed .21 VZ-B V-Spec II 08/09 Worlds Edition Competition Buggy Engine
I have been running OS Speed engines for a while now and have never had a problem with them. If they are run in right they last really well.

Do you own one of these motors Merdith? Your review doesnt really say if you have run one or not!?

Out of all the engines i have run these are the best of all worlds, 10+ min run time, easy to tune, loads of power, last well, rev real hard, no flame outs!

Kevin, you'll find that most (if not all) high-end race engines don't come with a warranty. Rightfully so, the people at OS shouldn't be responsible for covering the cost of replacement parts when a newbie screws up.

Experienced nitro racers with tuning knowledge will sincerely enjoy this engine. For those of you who in the "newb" and "beginner" categories, stick to your Go-Tech's and entry level RB's.

O.S. has alway made the best controlled motors. There carbs have always worked the best for my racing style. Every time I try another manufactor it is good but whenever I return to O.S. I am blown away by how nice they run. This speed motor is awsome.

Yeah,
My friend was on his 10th gallon on his vspec, send it in had it pinched and ran another 5 gallons. -//- Mr. Roach

I think your reviews on O.S. Vspec's are 100% bias. I've two vspec's, they run great i got one thats on its 2nd gallon and another on is 4th. Still on stock bearings!
