Losi Rock Rey 1/10 4WD Electric Rock Racer Kit
I was excited about building this kit. Bought it from Amain through Ebay. The first step is to assemble the front gear box (differential), and I never made it past this step. Why ? Because the ring and pinion are warped. When you turn the pinion, it goes part way around, and then gets tight.
I tried it with the plastic housing, and a Hot Racing aluminum one, as well as with no shims, and got the same result.
Contacted Amain and Losi, and they would do nothing without me jumping through all kinds of hoops. Not the way to take care of your customers. I have spent thousands with Amain.
I haven't bought anything from Amain since, and will never buy another Losi. And I'm sure as hell not spending another $40 for new ring and pinion !!! Is nobody accountable for this over-priced junk anymore ?

Losi Rock Rey 1/10 4WD Electric Rock Racer Kit
I've recently been roped back into RC, first finishing an original AE SC10 build I started 7 yrs ago, which got derailed by a couple of babies since then . Now, those babies are 5 and 4, and having a blast with it since I finished it off to run with my brother in law.. newfound common childhood loves ftw .

I loved my original Kyosho Outlaw Ultima, which is why I went with the SC10 when I first came back to RC, but a 4x4 has always been on my wishlist... enter the $250 Losi Rock Rey kit! The price alone to me was CRAZY, but the size (nearly 1/8 scale, Mod1 pitch gears) and aluminum hop-ups (rear link mount, front adj. camber/steering links/rods, metal servo horn inserts to avoid the RTR stripping problem), $40-$50 value thrown in vs the RTR plastic parts they replace, make this the best value i could find by a mile.

I loved the challenge in the build and very different capabilities and style. Yes, servicing can be a pain, so just make sure you're completely set with the internals i.e. steering servo alignment, ESC mount, receiver, etc, and you'll be able to reduce that. Then again, because I miffed a few things up-front and have had to take it apart, i've gotten the process down to about 12-14 screws, and don't need to remove the lexan body panels, just the cage.

Also - regarding any cornering issues (still better in the turns than the competition), be sure to tape your stock tires to lessen ballooning and tire roll. Also, i decided to use the alternative shock mounting holes yesterday, allowing the rear to squat a bit more, lowering the center of gravity a bit and really making a difference. If you plan to do some serious rock crawling, i'd move it back to the stock geometry, which is an easy adjustment.

Highly recommended, extremely versatile beast of a truck!

PS I went with the Castle Mamba Monster X ESC + 1406-2850KV Brushless/Sensored Crawler combo, and it just flies. tons of torque, great low-end crawling and top-end speed. Next installs will be Hot Racing's front sway bars and front shock tower brace. Speaking of the shocks, i know some balk at the plastic/nylon bodies and feel they don't provide ample dampening. Perhaps this will be the case with lower profile / sidewall tires, but for now, they seem to work very well with the stock tires.

Losi Rock Rey 1/10 4WD Electric Rock Racer Kit
Great build, awesome platform. I build all my kits,no rtr's. In hobby for 10+ years. This kit come with a easy to read manual and quality parts. I have two built two yeti's and i like this platform more. The price makes this the best rock racer out right now!

Losi Rock Rey 1/10 4WD Electric Rock Racer Kit
Easily the ****iest kit I've put together in the last 20 years. I've never gotten a full pack through without it breaking, and thats on 2s. Did research on the weak points so I upgraded the carrier, ssd front diff housing, aluminum bell crank/servo horn, MIP driveshaft when I originally built it. Now I can't keep the diff cups from exploding, or screws from failing in front or rear diffs, diffs need an upgrade option badly and not just twin hammer diff cups/protek screws...it needs something made for this truck specifically to fix that. Wouldn't recommend to anyone that wants to U4RC with it, would probably stay together as a crawler, but its a rock racer so....
