Losi Rear Gearbox Set

the rear gearbox is definitely one of the weakest designed part of the Losi 8ight 2.0. The plastic bearing inserts have to be replaced with the metal versions unless you want to replace the bearings every race weekend. The Metal ones need serious pressure to install on a new one. I had to grind a little plastic in the slot to get a good seat. The rear wing mount also puts stress on the plastic threads wearing out quickly, and the top set of screws eventually lose thread tightness once the wing mount does. This creates a lot of slop to the shock mount and adds some dreaded vibration to the rear end. Replacement boxes don't last much longer, so it was not fluke the first one was weak. By my third gearbox, I drilled through the tower mounting holes and used longer screws and bolted with lock nuts. So far this has held together much better. Maybe Losi will add this simple mod to a 2.5 version, the longer bolts and nut don't impede on any other part so should be easy fix.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this piece. Yes you need the aluminum inserts and half a brain to install with shims but will last several years.
