The downside is the steering servo was bad right out of the box. Horizon is sending me a replacement, but it's really a shame that an RTR isn't actually ready to drive when you first get it. I know most of us upgrade electronics, but I would have liked to put a through battery packs through it before I started upgrading.
Also be aware it is not quick to get to the electronics of this truck. I purchased the BnD version to mate with my DX5C. The binding worked without a problem but there are many screws to remove the body and partially disassemble the cage to get to the receiver.
Plastic A arms, rear 4 links and roll cage are strong pieces. Motor and ESC work well too. 3800KV seems to have good speed and torque for this 7 pounder with battery installed. Stock shocks just need some spring preload (I put 10mm compression on the front and 8mm on the rear to handle both on and off road condition) to reduce body roll. Tire rubbers are soft but surprisingly resistant to wear.
A few complains
2mm hex screws lack precision. I used caliper to measure them to find out, all the 2mm hex on the body chassis are within 2.0-2.04mm. Two screw pins LOS234005 on the front spindle measure about 2.2mm. The screw pin VTR246001 that fastens the 12mm wheel hex nut measures about 2.07mm. I had hard time removing those screws on the spindle and 12mm hex nut. Ended up making my own 2.xx hex driver by using a 2.5mm Allen Wrench and knife sharpener. Took about painful 1hr work.
Body pieces were not cut perfectly. I found quite a few uneven edges which are supposed to be straight line. Decals are applied with lots of bubbles. C'mon HorizonHobby where is your Quality Control in the OEM factory?
The right front wheel is missing one bearing and the truck won't go straight so I found why after running it for the first time because that wheel wobbled significantly compared to the left one. Sent email to Amain with pictures and they immediately shipped replacement bearings. A+++ for you guys!
Parts availability. I noticed some parts are already discontinued and HorizonHobby also like to bundles several components in one part number. The stock BND body/wheels look nice with orange inlay but they are not available to buy everywhere.
Overall, I like this truck very much and recommended to a friend who also ordered. I wish Losi can fix those small things to make it even better.
I ratted it a 4 only because I haven't really had it for to long, but so far pretty cool
