This is the Kyosho Turbo Optima Gold 4WD Off-Road Buggy Racer Kit. After the dynamic impact of the Optima was felt across the R/C racing scene, the Turbo Optima launched in 1986 as the strongest machine in the series. In addition to larger diameter tires, large capacity pressure shocks, front & rear stabilizers and Le Mans 240S motor, the immortal Turbo Optima was modernized for 8.4V power and makes its debut as the 7th model of the vintage series.
Key components of the Turbo Optima chassis have been redesigned to meet the demands of modern racing conditions and power sources, and share DNA with the Optima and Javelin. The Turbo Optima is not simply a reproduction of the original and includes gold anodized parts that were optional upgrades on the original, gold shocks with dial adjustment of chassis height and modern block pattern tires. Higher specs and design features deliver modern performance standards and visual impact that captures the magic of the original.
Features:
- While a faithful reproduction the original Turbo Optima, each key performance component has been revised for compatibility with modern power sources.
- 4WD belt drive. Pulley for chain is also included in the kit so purchase of an optional chain can change the drive system.
- Equipped with FRP radio plate that is compatible with major brand ESC’s (speed controllers).
- Three toe angle settings ( 0°, 1°, 2°) can be used by inserting different bushings into the rear hub carrier.
- Aluminum hex wheel hubs are be securely fixed with set screw pins.
- Equipped with sintered metal counter gears.
- Full ball bearing specifications (18 bearings).
- Includes separate driver figure with helmet and polycarbonate body.
- Battery holders are compatible with various modern batteries and secured with hook and loop straps for easy removal of battery.
- Hex screws used for assembly provide secure construction.

This is a surprising kit. After building quite a few re-release kits from other well known manufacturers, I can say that nostalgia is certainly a strong case here but the quality of materials and precision of assembly is superb. The fit and finish present in this kit are at the highest level; even surpassing some competition buggies I currently race with. It’s a joy to build. It begs you to take your time and enjoy the details. Performance wise, modern electronics will lend all the speed and run time a driver wants but the big draw for me was the way my back yard became a track again! Old-school laughs for days. This thing will certainly boogie at the local dirt track and carpet brawl but the latter might chew up the drivetrain a bit quickly. Excellent vintage race buggy.

Kyosho Turbo Optima Gold 4WD Off-Road Buggy Racer Kit
This is the most exciting buggy kit i've seen in years. Back in '87 when Kyosho brought this car out i was leaving the hobby to start a career and never got to experience the build or driving of this one. This re release kit is so nice that i bought 2 of them and have been having a great time with building and getting the option parts to make it unique. You don't need the optional CF pieces, but it never hurts to add a bit more strength and shed a few grams. I highly recommend the titanium control rods for easier fine tuning.
I'm really glad they left the motor out so I can choose what i want to use along with the electronics. I highly recommend this one to anyone who wants to enjoy a good build and enjoys driving a buggy that looks great compared to todays buggies.

Great remake of legend. Won may races with the original version. Latest version is much improved with drivetrain and shocks.

superb kit from Kyosho. packaging was so beautiful it was almost a shame to tear the parts out of. that brings me to one of my only complaints about this kit, they use a ton of glue on the blister packs and it's hard to get the parts out.. minor whining tho..

Kyosho Turbo Optima Gold 4WD Off-Road Buggy Racer Kit
This is the kit I always lusted after as a kid so when I saw it had been re-released I thought "Hey, that would be cool". I had some downtime coming up and the kit went on sale so I ordered it. I've built several kits from other manufacturers but this was is by far the nicest, most precise kit I've seen in a while. One really nice about this kit is that the screw are all hex head, not phillips. It makes for an easier, more precise assembly IMO. If you're on the fence, do yourself a favor and go ahead and get it. You won't be disappointed.

Very happy to receive my kyosho kits. I wish the packaging was a little better. Both boxes were damaged. I also purchased Tamiya kits from my local hobby shop. Most of the boxes were damaged. I love that I can get some hard to fine kits. Please work on the packagin. The only complaint is damage from shipping. A little bubble wrap would be good.
