Kyosho 1mm Micron Tape is a highly stretchable pin striping tape use to add line details to your bodies. Ultra fine, flowing lines can be created easily wherever desired. Due to the stretchable nature, you can add depth to any curve, on any surface. It has excellent adhesive strength that allows it to remain in place, even when exposed to water or oil. Package includes one five meter long roll of 1mm wide tape.

I bought these as a result of watching literally hours of YouTube RC enthusiasts using this to detail their models, including the very famous and very talented modeler, Kühfarben. So I figured “why not”; after all, it can’t look any worse than using a paint pen to line my cars with varying degrees of success. Lol
After receiving my order, I’d realized just how tiny this tape is! It’s hard to believe there’s really 5 meters of tape in the bag but it’s 5 meters. Don’t ask me how I know this without actually pulling it all apart and measuring. I know things. Not to mention just how tiny 1mm tape really is! It’s super thin despite the fact that Kyosho make even thinner tapes in .4mm and .7mm, respectively.
Anyway, as I’ve mentioned above, I’ve seen others using this tape and it adds a level of detail unmatched by paint. The lines make your models look VERY realistic beyond just decals included with your body.
Now… the downside. This tape, while very good, is only available in one size from Amain at the moment. While not a huge deal breaker and good for someone who’s on the fence about line tape, having more thicknesses available in the future would be great. Sadly that’s no fault of Amain since not even Kyosho have thinner tapes available at the moment due to supply chain issues.
In closing, if you’re on the fence about detailing your car and don’t want to use paint pens, try this instead. It’s cheap and if you don’t like it, you can remove it easily. Again, they’re only available (as of writing) in 1mm thickness. Hopefully in the future Amain will stock the .4mm and .7mm versions of the Kyosho micron tape or even the ABC Hobby .5mm detail tape or something that’s comparable to give more options to get my RC body to look just that much more realistic. The closest to it would be the Wrap Up Next combo tape but it’s more expensive and you don’t get a lot of tape per roll though you do get different thicknesses.
Anyway, I’ve waffled on too much. If you’re here and were thinking of getting the tape, just do it already.
EDIT: Removed one star tonight after tried them on my Tamiya Subaru XV and the tape made the body lines look very unrealistic as the 1mm tape is too wide. On top of that, the adhesion seems a bit weak; the tape doesn’t feel as secure on my body and I doubt it’ll stick on for anyone else. Still great if you have a static body but if you bash hard, you may have to re-apply the tape to your lines that fell off.

Kyosho 1mm Micron Trim Detail Tape (Black) (5m)
This is great for panel lines like on my MST RMX 2.5 RTR. It falls right in the groove and looks great. I tried markers and even specialty ones with a fine point but this micron trim detail tape just looks great! Holds on well too! I will continue using this for when my other body projects come along. Specifically I used it on my E30 body and it came out really good. Added details and gives the car some character. I highly recommend it. Pretty fun to apply as well.
