Kimbrough Scalloped Rubber Steering Wheel Grip
*While I didn’t purchase this from Amain directly, I do own this very item. The review below is my experience and any statements given are my personal opinion.

I had purchased this from a local hobby store that isn’t Amain but gets their stock FROM Amain. Weird but that’s another story.

Bought this grip because it was in stock and I was very curious as to how this performed compared to the foam grips found on my transmitters, a cheap RTR-style transmitter and my Noble NB4.

Sizing for this, it’s around 42-ish millimeters and weirdly fit my NB4 with no real issue though if you have a slightly larger wheel like a “large” wheel found on the NB4 Pro or similar, you may need to use a bit of silicone lubricant (NOT WD-40) to fit this grip onto your wheel. Likewise if your wheel is smaller, you will need a way to make up the gap. An old trick used by RC drifters is to use electrical tape wrapped around the wheel to ensure a snug fit. As for the wheel that’s on the “standard” NB4, it goes on with no issue and is super snug. No worries at all about if the wheel will move around on you while out running.

Anyway, as far as feel goes, this grip is a MASSIVE improvement over the standard foam rubber grips found on many transmitters and… is sadly even better in feel over the grip that came with my Yeah Racing steering wheel kit which it can fit if you own both and are daring.

What I like about this grip is that you build a muscle memory for where your fingers will lie on top of the wheel. This is important as if you need specific inputs to get your car around the track quickly, you’ll find the scalloped feel helps to ensure you’re making the same, repeated inputs every time. You crawler guys understand how important it is to get the inputs just right and this grip can help especially if you drive one-handed. The fact that this is made from hard rubber instead of foam means that it’ll last a bit longer and give you years of trouble free driving as well as being much easier to clean.

Now, some downsides. Like I said earlier, you will have to measure this wheel to ensure it’ll fit. Granted, most wheels are around 41-42mm wide and should fit without issue but the last thing anyone wants is to buy something that doesn’t work, especially if you have an RTR transmitter that has a slightly smaller wheel.

The grip itself may feel too tacky for some. If that’s the case, you can give it a bath in either some mild dish soap that you use to wash your RC body with or you could use some tire shine or any sort of silicone lubricant over the top to get rid of the extra tack. Do remember to remove the wheel BEFORE doing this because you DON’T want to ruin a very expensive radio, especially if you own a Sanwa M17 or a Futaba 7PXR!

Lastly, the scalloped design can make the grip look rather chunky and bulky on some wheels. If didn’t look bad at all on the standard NB4 wheel but on my Yeah Racing wheel, it looked like a set of giant paddle tires and looked ridiculous! Personally it’s not a bad thing considering what the grip gives you but for some, aesthetic is important and… that chunkiness could be a deciding factor.

In closing, if you’re looking at a cheap upgrade to your steering wheel and are tired of using squishy foam that wears out too quickly or moves around too much, get one of these. You’ll be glad you did.

Works well for one handed driving and fits nice and snug on the Futaba 4PLS I've attached it to.

Kimbrough Scalloped Rubber Steering Wheel Grip
I really like this thing, simple but it really helps with the grip on my radio, whether its hot, cold, wet, dry, you will always have a good grip on the wheel with this scalloped wheel grip. Huge difference for a very small price. Easy to install, I use it on my MT4.
