The HobbyZone Champ S+ Bind-N-Fly Electric Airplane is perfect for new pilots. Whether you’ve never flown RC before or you got your first taste of flying with a multirotor drone, the revolutionary HobbyZone Champ S+ BNF makes it easier than ever to learn to fly an RC airplane. That’s because it’s equipped with Horizon Hobby’s exclusive SAFE Plus technology providing the same kind of self-leveling stability and GPS guidance used in advanced drones that can cost thousands of dollars or more. SAFE Plus drone technology can land the airplane for you, keep you from flying too far away, and even lets you virtually "pause" the flight and circle by itself on command. SAFE Plus also includes three flight modes that allow you to learn at your own pace by preventing you from over-controlling the airplane and allowing you to perform basic aerobatic maneuvers when you're ready.

Flight Features:

  • AutoLand: When activated, the advanced AutoLand function puts the Champ S+ on a stabilized approach to autonomously land near the takeoff point. When flying in rougher conditions, you can provide some directional guidance and let the system do the rest to execute a safe landing.
  • Holding Pattern: Push a button, and the Champ S+ will automatically fly to a point near its takeoff location and circle at an altitude of approximately 65 feet. Once the command is cancelled, you have full control of the aircraft and can continue to fly.
  • Virtual Fence: It's easy to accidentally let an RC airplane get too far away, but with Virtual Fence worry no more because it creates a virtual boundary the airplane won't fly past. When the Champ S+ encounters the Virtual Fence, it automatically turns around inside the boundary and wags the wings letting you know you have control again.
  • Panic Recovery: If you ever lose control of the Champ S+, just switch to beginner mode and release the control sticks. SAFE® Plus technology will return the aircraft to level flight.
  • Flight Envelope Protection: Pitch and roll limits keep the Champ S+ from entering into extreme flight attitudes and conditions.
  • AS3X®: Works automatically to stabilize the Champ S+ with the sophistication of 3-axis gyros to help battle the influence of turbulence on windy days.

Features:

  • Exclusive SAFE® Plus drone technology from Horizon Hobby
  • 3 flight modes: Beginner, Intermediate, and Experienced
  • Innovative AutoLand technology lands the airplane by itself
  • With Panic Recovery, stable flight is resumed by simply releasing the sticks

HobbyZone Champ S+ BNF Electric Airplane (694mm) w/SAFE Auto Land
1st one flew away after GPS failed. This appears to be a common problem and the manufacturer sold me another one at 50% off.

The second one will not bind 9 out of 10 times. I give up.

It's a good thing it's discontinued

HobbyZone Champ S+ BNF Electric Airplane (694mm) w/SAFE Auto Land
This is my favorite plane to fly! The SAFE system is WELL matched to the planes capabilities. I have the timer set to 10 minutes with a 280mah venom battery and may set it higher the next time out. I have plenty of juice left in the battery on landing.

I'd love to see an older brother plane just like this one but scaled up about 55-60in (1400-1600mm) That plane would be dynamite!!!

My plane had the motor installed 9° sideways not happy ! Seems to be a common theme with the umx line up. You need to hold the planes with extreme care very fragile.

HobbyZone Champ S+ BNF Electric Airplane (694mm) w/SAFE Auto Land
This is the absolute perfect first plane, you should get it right now and finish reading this later.

Yes, it is that good. I do not normally respond to a craft like this but, this is truly the perfect starter plane. It's more than just a beginner plane though because what makes this such a great starter plane is that it will take you beyond the beginning. Let's list it out now.

1. Beginner mode, works like a 3ch starter plane.
2. Has GPS position hold, someone talking to you, just tap the botton and talk, no problem.
3. George fence, great if your fpv and worried about going out ofor range.
4. Already wired for fpv. Don't get any easer than plug and play.
5. Landing gear, practice take off and landings.
6. Auto land, holly crap, it actually works!
7. No idea howhat they did it but, it low cost too.
8. Durable, now it's not as durable as say the sky cruiser by dromida but, it takes hard landings and light crashes well.
9. Flight modes, yes as you get better you can take more and more control.
10. Loops and rolls.
11. Can even take the wind, I flew this thing in 8-11mph wind gust, and it did it. It even hovered in the stronger gust!
12. Stable, flight stablity even in experiencedo mode. Now it's notime going to right you in experience mode but, it combats wind gust. You wouldn't want it to right you in a roll anyway.
13. Battery door! Seams small but, after flying planes without it is nice not seeing your battery hanging from its wire after a hard recovery move.
14. Panic mode. Yea if you do decide to play with experience mode before your ready it's still there to help you out. Get confused or get the plane in the sun and simply hit the button gather your self then take back control when your ready.

Cons

1 short flight time even with upgraded battery. I get about 6 min in wind with the stock battery and 8-10 with a venom 300mah battery. Would like to see 15 minutes of flight time but, it would probably take a 500-600 and that would add a lot of weight.
2 go fence can work against you see flyers note at end

So that is it, now you see why I do recommend this craft. I normally do not suggest a craft but, this one stands out and it will save you money and give you a long time of flight glee.

*Flyers note* when you land unplug you battery pack before walking off the airfeild. Even when the motor is not on and it has done a landing if you walk beyond the geofence it will start up to go back to its take off point. You can disable go fence but I would leave it on if your running 25mw fpv. 50mw and greater your safe but, not with a 25mw, you can get away from your signal quick.
