Hobbywing Xerun XR8 Plus G2S 1/8 Competition Sensored Brushless ESC
I've had issues with the ESC since purchasing last year. The ESC cuts out for .3 to .5 seconds on just about anything but a buttery smooth landings. It was over $200 and has cost me multiple races. It's hard to just throw away $200.
I've contacted Hobbywing directly. They provided little to no help. They stated it was a known issue and would be resolved with a firmware update to which has never resolved the issue. Hobbywing then sent a thicker foam to help absorb impacts but did not make a difference.
In the 20+ years of racing, I have not dealt with a "known issue" without the manufacturer providing an actual repair or offering a replacement unit. All of my ESCs are Hobbywing in the 2 1/8th scale vehicles and 4 1/10th scales. This is the only model having issues.

Tempted to obtain the Gen 3, but also worry about how poorly customer service was with such a prominent manufacturer.

Hobbywing Xerun XR8 Plus G2S 1/8 Competition Sensored Brushless ESC
I’m very happy with the performance of the speed control. Blew up a 160 amp speed controller before this for a drag race build. When combined with the OTA programmer it has been a pleasure to tune.

Amain’s pictures of the product are misleading. This speed controller does not have super capacitors included. I had to buy one and wait for it to arrive before doing the install.

Lastly, it was a bum out that there were no Hobbywing stickers in the box. I love stickers!

Hobbywing Xerun XR8 Plus G2S 1/8 Competition Sensored Brushless ESC
Run this in all of my 1/8th scale e-buggy and e-truggy vehicles. This ESC is robust and high performing. Never had an issue, even in very hot, harsh environments (114 deg F SoCal race events).

Definitely recommend combining this with a Hobbywing 1/8th scale G3 motor as one gets "full sensored" performance from stand still to full throttle. Having tested all sorts of ESC+motor combos from different vendors, the feel of the Hobbywing combo is noticeably better. My preference is the 1900kV 4268SD motor (HWA30401906) for both e-buggy and e-truggy (maybe for really big tracks you could consider the 2250kV 4274SD motor (HWA30405001), but I haven't felt I needed the extra power even on a track like the TheDirt at Perris).

Also can recommend the Hobbywing OTA Smartphone ESC Module Programmer (HWA30850400). This is the best way to set up your Hobbywing ESC, imo. Super easy to use phone app.

*Sportsman-level driver, been running 8th scale for 10 years.

I have 2 of these in my Teknos. EB48 2.1 and ET48 2.1 and they work flawless. Never have any problems.

Hobbywing Xerun XR8 Plus G2S 1/8 Competition Sensored Brushless ESC
It's installed but the first race will be next week at the Encino Velodrome. I've installed the Xeron XR8 with a 5t mod in a Slash which will run mod Street Beast class at the Encino Velodrome. It will mostly be a test for handling then adjustments for speed. I had a Xerun Pro 160 amp in it but my friend fried his running a 4.5t motor so I replaced it with the XR8.My og HW Program Box is not compatible with the XR8, I have ordered a Program Box Pro to make final adjustment.

Hobbywing Xerun XR8 Plus G2S 1/8 Competition Sensored Brushless ESC
It's a HobbyWing esc, what else can you say. Paired off with the Bluetooth OTA esc programmer and its a win/win. Smooth linear throttle response. Well built and robust. Takes a beating because I'm super aggressive with my throttle engagements and brake input...(tend to throttle hard into corners and jumps and brake at the last second,) not to mention how many rollovers and unexpected PVC encounters I tend to have...and this little guy keeps pushing my truggy without any hesitation. All my electric 10th scales and 8th scales have HobbyWing esc's.
