Futaba R603FS FASST 3-Channel 2.4Ghz Receiver
Ive owned two futaba recievers, both the FF and FS models and both are equally good and dependable. Ive raced them in the desert of phoenix, durring summer night racing in a nitro and an electric stadium truck and have never had any glitches or shutdowns. The FF is perfectly fine for electric models, but the FS model is the nitro guys best friend. The fail safe works if you have an issue with the radio (like the batteries die or you run out of range). The fail safe will kick in and if you set it right, it will have the brakes on full power to stop your vehicle. (if the battery goes an old fashioned return spring on the carb will save you hundreds). This thing is great and I highly recomend them for any one who races and needs worry free radio equipment.

Futaba R603FS FASST 3-Channel 2.4Ghz Receiver
I've raced these receivers in all my nitro 8 scale with no issues whatsoever. Never have they gone in shutdown. These other people are truly delusional.

Futaba R603FS FASST 3-Channel 2.4Ghz Receiver
I've ran the R603FS receivers in 1/8 scale offroad, 1/10 scale 4wd offroad, and short-course trucks. Never once have I had any issues, shutdowns, or glitches.

I'd definitely use these receivers again.

Futaba R603FS FASST 3-Channel 2.4Ghz Receiver
Not quite sure what heat problems your having, but I have been running 5 of these receivers in my MBX6 & 6T in Kuwait for the past two years without one single problem, It would be impossible to run with the battery any closer to the engine. I also use lipo 7.4v and have a Losi voltage regulator sat on top of the receiver and a JR 8711 on the steering, after a final the radio box is cooking, NEVER had a problem. I am tempted to suggest it maybe a faulty batch (over sensitive), I would send it back.

Futaba R603FS FASST 3-Channel 2.4Ghz Receiver
I would not buy this, I have a 3PKS and I have gotten the thermal shutdown several times. Enough that I am switching radios.. If your RX compartment is close to your engine I would recommend moving it to the front and move the battery to the rear..

Futaba R603FS FASST 3-Channel 2.4Ghz Receiver
This receiver has thermal problems, when the track is hot and at certain high temperature the receiver comes to shutdown.
