Futaba 7PXR 7-Channel 2.4GHz T-FHSS Telemetry Radio System w/R334SBS Receiver

I grabbed this 7PXR to compare to my current 7PX and while Futaba updated the appearance with some immitation carbon fiber that actually looks nice and changed a couple of the main menu and home buttons a bit, I haven’t found any obvious changes or differences with the actual software or menu system other than a second screen background color, even though the product description says the menu system has been updated. One nice change is the 7PXR does include the steering wheel angle adapter in the box which I had to order from Futaba when I got the first 7PX for an extra $12.00 or so.

I originally purchased the 7PX in September of 2018 when I got back into the hobby after close to 10 years of doing responsible adult things instead, and because I did that boring stuff like complete a 4 year apprenticeship, get an awesome job and save money I was able to come back with a bang, going all out and buying all new stuff top to bottom and for the first time in my RC career that started at 13 years old with a Tamiya Frog in the late 80's, I was able to get pretty much the best of the best with not only several new kits, but the radio, servos, esc's, motors, tons of upgrade and spare parts up front, batteries, charger etc, plus all new pit stuff, Arrowmax tools etc. I had nice vehicles in the past (Kyosho Inferno MP5, MP7.5, AE TC4, TC5, B44 etc) but never had much left over for the rest of the required stuff so I always had basic electronics and often when I broke something it would be weeks until I could fix it. I was surprised how much more fun I was having this time, and the new radio was a huge part of that. I specifically bought the 7PX because I was building a heavily modified TRX-4 Defender that needed 7 channels to control everything that I was installing (front locker, rear locker, 2 speed tranny, winch, full light kit) and being the only radio with a big color touchscreen other than the Spektrum which I had zero interest in, I was able to justify the high price.

The only complaint and thing that I really wish Futaba would have added to the 7PXR that isnt on the original is a 3 position on/off/on switch for one of the channels, but for some reason they didnt do it which is crazy that a 7 channel surface transmitter that has numerous truck/crawler specific features but doesnt have a switch designed to operate a winch. I was so surprised when I got the 7PX that I called Futaba tech support to see if they even knew how to program the radio to operate a winch at all, and they basically told me that it wouldnt do it correctly. I ended up getting the rotary dial set up to run the winch in a way that works pretty good, but its definitely not optimal.

One other "complaint" is the base of the radio is fairly narrow for how much weight is up top, and if you use the steering wheel drop down and angle adapter, the radio will tip over very easily so I just got innthe habit of never standing it on the base, rather I set it on the back side, opposite the steering wheel. After watching helplessly as a clumsy guy at the track bumped the table sending the remote crashing to the concrete floor when it was a week old made me learn quickly that if its not in the hard case to lay it over on the side.

I’ve currently got the 7PX running just the TRX-4 and have the new 7PXR setup for my collection of dozen rigs that I run at the track and a few others like my UDR, Kraton, 4-Tec 2.0, a 100mph speed run Tekno EB48.4 etc that I just mess around with in the streets, parks, construction sites etc. Long winded review, but in short its easily the best radio Ive ever had or used and until Futaba comes out with the next version in a couple more years that I'm certain I'll upgrade to, these are the only transmitters I plan on using.

This transmitter is extremely nice it has more than enough features for me. The response time is so incredible compared to all of the RTR radios I have been using. The 40 model memory is extremely nice being able to switch between models not having to reset trim every time. The screen is bright enough to be able to be seen outside while driving and the ergonomics of and balance of this radio really makes it a joy to use and feels like you really are able to connect with your car more. Definitely worth getting and seriously it’s awesome!

Last transmitter you will ever purchase. Simple to use and has more than enough functions for all of your rc cars or trucks.

Amazing! More than I will ever need. Creates a connection between you and the car rather than a transmitter. The adjustability is so far beyond what I could imagine. Would highly sugggest a nice case for it. This is one transmitter you don’t want to damage. No only for it work extremely well it is beautiful!

This transmitter is amazing totally worth the price it has so many options to use i probably won't even use half of them.

Finally received my 7 PXR! Ordered mine back in February and was told that it would be a couple of weeks. Then the whole pandemic thing shut pretty much everything down! Now it's the middle of April and I just got it. I can say it was worth the wait! It feels perfect in hand, great balance, and the controls are perfect! Huge improvement from other Futaba radios that I have owned. I love the way it looks and couldn't be happier!

And options for tuning and mixing for different setups. I use this with my electric MST RMX2.0 drift car and my collection of nitros. Switching between each car is very fast and simple and so is setting them up. I highly recommend the LiFe battery pack for this as well as it only comes with a pack for 4 AAs which is OK but the LiFe pack lasts much longer.
It's moderately ergonomic. I'd prefer the wheel not being out so far and maybe a small switch guard for the trim buttons as i find myself accidentally bumping them during sessions but there might be a way to change that as I have not looked into it. It feels very nice overall, clean, pretty nice balanced weight, seems to have a very strong clean signal output to the receiver and inputs are very precise with no noticeable delay. I got a kick out of the ABS, TCS and launch control settings which I didn't initially know about but they are interesting. It comes with a few extra/optional parts which is nice including another wheel.
Display is bright, clear and adjustable. Touch screen feature can allow you to make it more or less sensitive to touch inputs which I ended up making it more sensitive so I wouldn't have to tap the screen as hard.
It is visually pleasing just as it is in the pictures on top of some accessories you can get for it. I could go on but to put it simply this thing is amazing all around. I have no regrets on buying this and will and do recommend to others.

I’ve have owned a lot of radio’s in my 25+ years in this hobby, and i will say futaba is by far the best. This radio is top of the line! When you hold it in your hand and compare it to others.. they feel like cheep plastic. Well worth the money in my opinion.

Product didn’t work at all. Shipped back to A main now they clam parts are missing. What a joke! On the flip side they did send a replacement.

This radio is awesome, easy to use menu, awesome looks and feel. I also have a Dx6r and it is like a $5 dollar piece of junk next to this. You won’t be disappointed with this radio. Now about the purchase, took 2.6 hours on the phone with my bank to verify it was actually me making the purchase, this is after placing 18 orders since March totaling $4000, using the same card ,so what is the problem all of a sudden. The 5stars is for the transmitter. AMAIN company gets 2stars for ruining my ENTIRE day to make a simple purchase when they allready knew I was a valid Customer. You don’t treat the people that put food on YOUR table like this.
