The passion at FliteTest is to introduce this great hobby to as many people as possible. It is also to make that journey as fun as possible. This design focuses on both goals more than anything. We learned a ton from the tiny trainer on the value of growing with one aircraft from 3 to 4 channel. We also learned that a landing gear adds another very important skill set and source of fun to every pilot. We did not want this design to end there.Versatility is also very important as well. The landing gear of the FT Simple Cub can be removed to either fly as a belly lander or on optional floats specially designed for this great little trainer.

Now made from the new Maker Foam the Simple Cub is both easy to build and easy to fly. In its most simple format, 11 separate pieces of foam is all that is required to build this plane. This makes for a build time under 2 hours. We took a great amount of inspiration from the Horizon Super Cub LP and the Blu Baby. Both are amazing designs that we all love and want to honor. The ability for the FT Simple cub to go from 3 channel (rudder, elevator, and throttle) to 4 channel (rudder, elevator, aileron, and throttle) without building a new wing. The aileron mod only takes 15 minutes to add and opens a world of options like flaperons and aerobatic flying. If dropping foam bombs for target practice is your fancy, the same servo will double as drop mechanisms while still keeping the great flight characteristics as the original 3 channel format. Your support, feedback, and passion for flight is the reason we are here today! Thank you for choosing the FT Simple Cub and for your support through your purchase. We are confident that this design is possibly the most rewarding to build, fly, and modify creations that we have ever created. We can’t wait to see how many memories, pilots, and modifications come from our great FT Family!

Flite Test Simple Cub "Maker Foam" Electric Airplane Kit (956mm)
Best purchase of the entire year. Best plane in our fleet. Fun build, flies like a dream. Recommended for ALL skill levels. Try to get one with brown foam. The white foam is NOT an upgrade.

Thank you Flight Test for all your wonderful summer projects!

Flite Test Simple Cub "Maker Foam" Electric Airplane Kit (956mm)
Overall a solid plane, but not truly what I would recommend as a first plane. I know that high wing, slow fly planes are good, but this design is almost TOO capable! Even on low rates, the full lenght ailerons and big elevator make for a very maneuverable plane. To me, even on a small power plant, its a little fast for training. Regardless, it does 3D really well, and is an awesome 2nd or 3rd plane!

Flite Test Simple Cub "Maker Foam" Electric Airplane Kit (956mm)
4.5/5

I ordered the older version of this plane (brown foam), and it was excellent. The build went smoothly, and the kit was cut out perfectly. This is the first "real" plane I have owned, and it has held up to my abuse quite well (think nosedives into pavement at full throttle from 10 feet up). I have modified this plane several times, from adding and removing flaps to reinforcing the airframe numerous times with 1/16" balsa wood that I had laying around. I think the fact that I am running it on power pack "C" instead of "B" (which is recommended), has helped to counteract the extra weight of the wood. Some things I think could be changed:
1: The front/nose. I have had a lot of nosedives, which have made it nessesary for me to replace/reinforce a large part of the front 4" of the plane several times, due to the foam crumpling back and affecting the fit of the power pod. I think some thicker walls or balsa wood braces would help fix this problem.
2: The skewer holes for the power pod. As previously mentioned, I have had a lot of hard, nose-down crashes, and this has led to the power pod and motor being crushed backwards into the fuselage. While this has not damaged the motor or electronics, the holes for the skewers eventually became so crushed that I had to replace the area of foam around the hole with balsa wood with a hole drilled in it (I wouldn't really recommend this, as the next crash, instead of stripping the holes, actually put so much force on the wood that it cracked the whole nose).
3: The landing gear. I am terrible at landing (*crashing*), and my landing gear have taken a lot of abuse. I have had no major issues with the gear themselves, but the mounting block for them has long ago been crushed rendered useless. I have have to replace large amounts of the gear mounting mechanism with balsa wood, and it is now much stronger.

I have also noticed that the ailerons are very touchy. While I do not mind this, as I can adjust the rates on my transmitter, this is just a warning to other new pilots: I found that I had to dial down the rates to about 75% for a pleasant experience.

All in all, I think this is an excellent option for a first plane. It is remarkable durable, I have had many bad crashes where, aside from a broken prop, the plane is ready to fly again within 5 minutes. I would say that this is a good first plane for anyone who enjoys modifying a plane, or who is particularly good at crashing. Overall this is well worth the money in my opinion, it is well made and fun to fly. I think that a few modifications would make this a perfect 5/5 and even more beginner freindly, but it is still great as is.

Flite Test Simple Cub "Maker Foam" Electric Airplane Kit (956mm)
I gave this kit as a Christmas present to my son and once we got around to it, ended up building it with my daughter who was more interested. It was fun while watching the great video on YouTube for the Simple Cub.

First flight was short (crashed) broke prop and discovered that the push rod for the elevator buckles really easily so we weren't able to give it enough 'up'. With tape we braced the inside of the rod against the fuselage, cutting the unsupported length in half, and also removed most of the 'hinge' length, just cut it out with a razor blade. No more rod buckling, plenty of 'up' elevator.

Then we flew it for what seemed like an hour. About 12 flights, trying to land but crashing mostly, it was great! He flew it, I flew it, and I'm sure my daughters will get up the courage to fly it soon.

I've built a balsa wood plane before, this was way easier and faster to get into the air, and despite rolling it into the ground a few times it held up perfectly. We just threw it back into the air and it kept flying.

Great airplane.

Flite Test Simple Cub "Maker Foam" Electric Airplane Kit (956mm)
This was my first RC plane that I flew and might I say it is FUN. Built correctly it is a great plane to fly and it can take and beating!

If you are looking fore a good sized trainer that you can take along with you to almost anywhere that can also do some tricks, then I'd say that the FT Simple CUB is the plane for you.

Flite Test Simple Cub "Maker Foam" Electric Airplane Kit (956mm)
Love this plane. I built mine with a flat wing and flaperons for a more advanced flight envelope and boy did it deliver. First one lasted 2 years and flew and crashed and flew again more times than I can count. From lazy slow patterns to inverted spins and crazyness this plane is awesome and for the price I dont think you will find much better.

Flite Test Simple Cub "Maker Foam" Electric Airplane Kit (956mm)
Great beginner plane, I’ve crashed countless times and it is still able to fly well. Dihedral make it very easy to stay level and overall flys great!
