The Flite Test Explorer Core Kit is a package containing all the foam pieces needed to build a second FT Explorer Fuselage. The goal in offering the core kit is to deliver the possibility of building two airframes: one as three channel, and one as four channel control.

NOTE: This is NOT an entire aircraft!

Flite Test Explorer Core Speed Build "Maker Foam" Fuselage Kit
I bought the FT Explorer to act as a trainer for my son and I. My reasoning was that being a pusher it would be a little more resilient when we inevitably crashed it. First flight I lost track of it behind some trees and it went down in a freshly cut wheat field. No damage, gave it a quick once over and launched again. The second flight went a little better but ended up in a tree. It took a few days to get it down. When we finally did get it down the battery was dead as expected but otherwise the plane was still serviceable. It sat in that tree over a long weekend and probably got dew if not a bit of rain and it's not damaged in the least.

The build was fairly easy. I watched the build video all the way through at least twice and then watched it while we built the model. The power pod and the tail slide into the fuselage and then the nose slides over the fuselage. We found it really hard to slide the tail into the fuselage. They show a trick to compress the foam a bit to make it easier, I'll try that in future.

We skipped straight to the sport wing and the plane was faster than I expected, a bit too fast for a trainer. I plan to make the other wing now. Also I recommend getting the Aura PCB which helps to keep things stable and level. Also when they sent the power pack that was recommended Flite Test sent props that were way too long. I ordered the correct props and in the meanwhile sanded the long ones down.

All in all I am happy with the plane as it proved very tough. It has survived my shoddy first build work and shoddy first time flying, which is all I can ask.
