The Fantom FR-1 v3R 17.5 Works Plus Edition Pro Spec Brushless Motors are built to strict quality standards, which includes properly shimming the rotor, a complete evaluation of the coils, rotor strength, asymmetry, and sensor board deviation to match strict tolerances. The timing is also set to Fantom's recommended setting. Coil resistance, rotor strength, and dyno results included! All Team Edition motors are guaranteed to meet Fantom's strict specifications!
Works Plus motors are built with all available options. This includes ABEC 7 hybrid ceramic bearings and Teflon shims to further enhance performance. Additionally, the pro aluminum timing clamp, pro aluminum stator screws, and pro aluminum timing clamp screws are used, with all test results printed and included. This is as good as it gets!!
The heart of the v3 FR-1 Series motors are the highest quality stators and rotors. Fantom stators are made from premium grade Kawasaki steel from Japan. The improved v3 stator design provides super low ohms resistance, while at the same time providing more POWER and RPM, as well as better efficiency! In addition, all v3's are outfitted with improved super-high strength "Ultra Select" premium grade neodymium rotors, for extreme horsepower and superior fade resistance!

I am not sure what some individuals expectations are as far customer service goes. I ordered my V3 Fantom motors shortly after the were available to be ordered which I do believe was before they were in stock. After a couple of weeks I was contacted via email by Fantom that some stock they received did not pass QA. In stead of turing out dozens possibly hundreds of sub standard units, they rejected the bad stock and waited for the parts to pass QA before building the motors. They gave me the option to cancel the order. Thankfully I did not, because I have a little patients and I understand regardless of all the planning and preparations you make for a new product launch, they almost never go as planned. Far too many variables. Fantom kept me in the loop the whole time via email. Did I have to wait a little longer yes. Was it worth it most definitely. Fantom makes a high demand product due to its performance on the track. I imagine they were flooded with orders as are many other motor makers when they announce the newest version of motor comes to market. Fantom has shown me more customer service than almost any other company out there. If you have a question or issue with their product reach out and talk to them. I am sure they will respond in kind.
As far as the motor goes its a beast. Lighter, 10 grams lighter than the V2, runs cooler, about 15-25 degrees F depending on grip of the surface, pulls harder and brakes harder than any other 17.5 motor I have ever ran. The braking action of the motor is much smoother than any other motor and keeps the car straight and allows you to dive into corners deeper due to the better controlled braking. It was recommended to me that you have to gear these motors at least 2-3 teeth lower than the earlier versions. You will still have the same or better top speed when geared correctly and this allows the motor to pull harder out of the corners. This motor is the best 17.5 and 13.5 motors I have purchased.

Let's just say that after placing this motor on my motor analyser it couldn't come close to a bog standard Team Powers with identical 40 on the end can (I test all my motors at this sweet spot) with significantly lower kv and rpm at max. But this isn't surprising given my prior experience with Fantom motors and a 13.5 I had them build for me some years back which unfortunately I felt just didn't give the results I hoped for and was proven on the motor analyser when compared with my other motors. The low rating reflects the relatively high cost. I won't be dishing out the extra bucks again for a Fantom sadly but they do look good. Schuurspeed give far better results in terms of kv and max rpm for less money.

Really, Fantom motors are out of stock. I know so many racers that have given up on Fantom for this reason. They are not that great and have weak support.
