E-flite P-39 Airacobra 1.2m BNF Basic Electric Airplane (1200mm)
Bought this plane several months ago as my first rc plane. However this is definitely not a beginner plane as obvious as that may be.

However with asx3 safe select properly setup it can be done if you take your time and dial in your expo properly. I've got about two dozen flights on it and here are some of the main things to take away...

The nose gear is the weak point on this aircraft. There are some ways to make it stronger or replace it altogether with a different gear (you can search YouTube for other eflite planes with similar gear to get an idea of what I mean) it would likely be no issue if your using tarmac 100% of the time. But taking off from grass or dirt even with gentle landings it can fold on you so keep that in mind. I've only had one instance of this happening on my first grass landing. This also led to a prop strike which caused a blade to snap off. The mains also got a little bent but those where able to be straightened. The fragile nature of the internals of the nose gear makes it pretty hard to repairwithout outright replacement.

The next thing is 3s vs 4s. If you are a beginner it is highly recommend starting with 3s. It fly's slower and is a bit less of a handful. 4s and this thing is a speed demon and quite honestly hard to not fly fast. It does however make for quicker takeoffs and makes dirt and grass takeoffs easier.

The next thing I found fascinating about the plane is it's stall characteristics or lack thereof. You can go full flaps and no throttle, elevators full up and this things glides gently down to the ground. Flaps up, in a normal flying attitude and pull back the throttle to zero and it gently loses altitude. Very surprising from what I've heard about other warbirds having scary tendencies in a stall.

Run times average 4.5-5 minutes on a 2200mah 4s pack before you really need to land. If your flying near full throttle the whole time this drops to around 4 minutes.

The battery area is roomy enough (if you remove the tray) to fit 5000mah 3s packs, although you do feel the weight and it is even more important to make sure your cg is proper. But if you like longer fly times and scale flight this is quite an attractive option. With larger batteries like this, fly times of near ten minutes can be obtained.

I think some softer tires might also help with landings on tarmac. Even if you land perfectly sometimes you can get a bit of an unpleasant bounce, which I fear could lead to a nose gear collapse. Another person on YouTube changed the eflite p51 1500mm mustang tires to something softer which helped alleviate this issue.

One last thing to note is that you can run safe select on this aircraft with only a 6 channel radio if you use a servo reversing y harness. A search of Google will explain this more proper. If you don't want to fiddle with that but want to use safe select you should make sure you have a 7 channel radio. However safe select works well with my spektrum dx6e, I have safe select set to come on with mains down so this can really help with beginners especially when practicing landings.

Overall I think this plane is a pretty good value for the price, it looks great and is unique compared to a lot of what you see at local clubs and it also performs very well with a few drawbacks. Would recommend very cautiously to beginners that do their research and definitely recommend to seasoned pilots.
