The E-flite Opterra 2m BNF Basic Electric Flying Wing with AS3X and SAFE technology is an exciting combined effort of George Hicks and Mike McConville – two of model aviation’s premier aircraft designers. Together, they have created some of the most dynamic flying RC airplanes on the market. This big flying wing has a wide range of capabilities that include everything from sport aerobatics to soaring.

Central to the aircraft’s amazing capabilities are lightweight construction, long wingspan and efficient, advanced aerodynamics that shaped its design. In addition to its efficient airfoil, winglets and fins on the fuselage help the model track true in all kinds of air.

This craft also gives you the ability to put yourself in the pilot’s seat with FPV gear while using a GoPro Hero 3, Hero 4 or similar class camera to record HD video at the same time. Multiple camera mounting stations are available, allowing you to fly FPV and record HD video at the same time. This Bind-N-Fly version comes with the added benefit of a Spektrum AS3X receiver that features optional SAFE Select technology for more novice flyers.

The camera nose includes four foam inserts:
  • Insert for GoPro Hero 3 and Hero 4 Cameras
  • Insert for recommended Spektrum™ FPV camera (see below)
  • Insert for other FPV cameras
  • Blank insert that can be custom cut for other payloads
  • It also has an external mounting station for low-profile Mobius or Legend HD cameras. This allows pilots to mount an HD camera on top of the nose and an FPV camera in the nose.

E-flite Opterra 2m BNF Basic Electric Flying Wing (1989mm)
Contrary to the first review, I have two of these planes and both fly beautifully. One for recreational flying and the other is used for search and rescue as well as fire spotting in rural areas. They are not made for speed and not very powerful on 3S but will soar extremely well with a little lift. They do better on 4S if loaded with camera gear and flight controllers. In stock form on 3S they can be thrown, but if heavy with gear 4S with a catapult launch or high start is needed.

E-flite Opterra 2m BNF Basic Electric Flying Wing (1989mm)
I have two waiting to be parted out? Have decided against that.
Do not risk your good camera gear.
The first crash came after a 45 yard run on a very light trolly. Never got off the ground into 5 mph head wing ??? I must have done something wrong?? Maybe the BEC did not set to full??
I pulled the Parts thinking I might use them again. It crossed my mind that it was under powered.
The next one had a channel that was bad. If you were a beginner you would never have figured it out.
It had the proper CG.
The next one did the exact same thing after a 50 yard role.
I think the air frame is good. I have even thought about changing every.
I bought another 2 scale planes made buy the same company. Really! They few well until a AL servo went done.
I have thrown all four planes in the trash. Not even worth salvage. Parts can not be trusted.
They are cheap Chinese junk. It was to good a deal to be true.
