DS Racing Drift Element 6 Spoke Drift Wheels (Triple Black w/Silver Rivets) (2)
It’s been a long time coming but I FINALLY got a hold of these wheels from Thailand.

Originally, I had asked in a comment on one of Amain’s Drift project videos saying “would be nice if you folks brought in some DS Racing products” and they’d answered.

I specifically ordered these to go alongside a set of DS Racing’s own Competition Tires, specifically their LF-5 which was the 2021 USDC spec tire.

First impressions are great. Wheels look amazing and being I’d ordered the “black on black with silver rivets”, they really exceeded my expectations. They’re almost chrome rivets and look awesome!

Another highlight to these wheels are that they have an adjustable offset, from 4mm to as wide as 12mm to accommodate much wider bodies/chassis for that scale look. Not the first company to do it (not the last either) but much more secure than the MST which requires CA glue and not as brittle as the ones made by Team Tetsujin.

A few things to note though are that these wheels being designed the way they are, WORK BEST IF EQUIPPED ON A CAR WITH LOCKING WHEEL HEXES! Yes, they *sometimes* will work with simulated disc brake wheel hexes but not always due to the smaller inner diameter so check the fit first. However, if you want the best performance from these wheels, you need to use them with locking wheel hexes as you would a Yokomo “Racing Performer” high traction wheel.

Another thing to note is that the wheels are held together with tapping screws, which over time can become damaged beyond repair, more so if cross-threaded at any point so the key to these is getting the offset you want right from the start and only adjusting if it’s absolutely necessary. Too much on-off with the screws and it can ruin your wheels.

UPDATE (1/10/23): After receiving these wheels, I did find that the included hardware used to hold the wheel together produced noticeable plastic strain (ie when the plastic discolors due to hardware being installed tightly). Even with careful installation, it still produced severe strain. It’s unavoidable and not a fault of manufacturing but it’s a little deflating knowing it’s there.

Another fault I’ve found only after installing was that due to the two halves having to come together, the “inner” half of the wheels produces a little lip that can catch the tire as you install them. Luckily I had purchased a cordless rotary tool and was able to shave the “lips” down but you will need to keep this in mind when installing tires on these wheels.

In closing, these are a great wheel for the price. More expensive than other options like MST but with the piece of mind that they’re more secure. Plus, the customization options make them a great choice to accessorize your project.
