Crawler Innovations Double Deuce 5.5” 2.2 Triple Stage Crawler Foam with Comp Cut Inners and Tuning Ring. Crawler Innovations offers another breakthrough product with these triple stage foams. Consisting of a dense car stand foam foundation this foam helps to give you direct and responsive steering response. The second stage is a standard grey foam and is machined to perfection. The third and last stage is a more conventional open cell foam giving you a good tire patch and conforming to uneven surfaces. Adding to this last stage is a thin tuning ring that can be removed from this outer foam, allowing the use of a slightly smaller tire or creating a softer feel. The closed cell inner foam is super dense, water proof, is not temperature sensitive and is extremely durable. The conventional outer foam is not temperature sensitive, but it is not water proof.

NOTE: The inner foam width is 1.50" and is machined for 1" width wheels, but they will fit any size wheel/rim from .7" to 1.35".

Crawler Innovations Double Deuce 5.5” 2.2 Triple Stage Crawler Foam w/Comp Cut
It bugs me that there isn’t a standardized method for describing foam density to online purchasers. I wish Amain could find some way to do this. I’ll try to leave a detailed and comprehensive review here because there isn’t a hobby shop near me, so I’m forced to order tons of foams and return them if they end up not working out.

I have Axial Falken Wildpeak M/T 5.5” tall mounted on 2.2” Traxxas Method wheels. I run these on an 8 pound RC Speedy C2 chassis that I mostly use for crawling, but I also like to swap the pinion and shocks and add sway bars and rip around the yard at 30+ MPH.

This particular foam set up is perfect for this. Best of both worlds. There’s a perfect amount of give with the outer foam for rock crawling. The inner foams don’t let the tire roll over when sidehilling or cornering at high speed.

The black inner is pretty difficult to mount on the 2.2” wheel and I was worried it would rip trying to get it over the wheel, but I was able to slowly work it over. My wheels are vented, but the black inner foam is snug enough that it seals the holes off and traps the air inside. I personally prefer this.

The outer foam is about as firm as a cake. Pretty easy to smoosh around but bounces back
Middle foam is much denser, about 1/2” thick. Difficult to compress between thumb and index finger but still manageable. Always returns to original shape.
Inner inner foam is more like a rubber mat. It’s about 5/16” thick and very hard to compress. Really makes a great sidewall material.
