Castle Creations Monster X Waterproof 1/8th Scale Brushless ESC takes Castle’s legendary “monster” performance to the next level. The waterproof Monster X can run between 2S and 6S LiPo and is a great “power up” upgrade system for 1/8th scale off-road and on-road vehicles. It is also a perfect option for 1/10th scale monster trucks and custom RC monstrosities weighing up to 15 lbs!

Extreme Power • Extreme Control • Extreme Fun!
The Monster X provides even more extreme performance than the Monster 2. Most notable is the addition of a programmable Auxiliary Wire that allows users to make “on-the-go” adjustments to several settings, such as torque control and max throttle. The Auxiliary Wire allows users to fine-tune the performance of their Monster X ESC right from the transmitter using an auxiliary channel on the receiver. The AUX wire function is disabled by default but is programmable via Castle Link. Once the user has programmed the functionality of the AUX wire, that setting can then be adjusted on-the-go from a compatible transmitter. The Monster X also features updated Audible Alerts that will notify drivers of possible issues with their calibrations and error conditions to help diagnose problems in the field.

Sensored Motor Capable
The Monster X can also be configured to run sensored brushless motors with the purchase of an optional Sensor Harness from Castle Creations. This sensored-motor capability delivers the smooth power delivery that racers, rock racers and rock crawlers demand.

Extreme Power
The Monster X is capable of running from 2S to a maximum of 6S LiPo power, but now features an improved heavy-duty adjustable Battery Eliminator Circuit (BEC) to provide plenty of power for today’s power hungry servos. The Monster X BEC voltage is adjustable from 5.5V, 6.0V, 7.5V and 8.0V with an 8 AMP peak. The Monster X also comes standard with a highly efficient, 30mm ESC cooling fan.

Monster X Data Logging
The Monster X also has the ability to capture and record performance data from your last couple of runs, commonly referred to as data logging. This data can be downloaded via the upcoming Castle Quick Connect Duo (sold separately) that allows the user access to both wires into the single Castle Link connection. The user can then analyze this data and make adjustments to the ESC to maximize both performance and battery life.

Telemetry Ready (Compatibility Coming Soon for Futaba T4PX Transmitters!)
The Monster X is telemetry ready, which means owners of Futaba T4PX Transmitters will be able to purchase the Castle Creations S.BUS Telemetry Link when it is released. Real-time data such as ESC temperature, voltages and RPM can be monitored to ensure performance advantages and spare you the “unknown” parameters that all R/C enthusiasts experience at some point. Telemetry data provides another level of protection, can increase your “tuning awareness” and in turn, let you have more time having fun.

Product Use Statements:

  • *Although Mamba Monster X and Castle brushless motors are waterproof, they are not intended for operation while completely submerged in liquid. They can corrode when exposed to corrosive materials, such as salt water. Always rinse the ESC and motor with clean water after exposure to corrosives or dirt. While the motor and controller may be waterproof, Castle suggests users confirm that the rest of their vehicle, including the batteries, servos, radio and chassis are also waterproof before exposing them to liquids of any kind.
  • **The cooling fan must be removed prior to driving in wet conditions. It is not waterproof.
  • Not all LiPos are created equal, and surge ratings should never be used to determine a pack’s suitability for a brushless application. Use the CONTINUOUS C rating only. Mamba Monster setups frequently hit 100+ amps in peaks. Castle strongly suggest using 5,000 mAh or larger LiPo cells with a discharge rating of at least 30C (or high quality 25C batteries such as Traxxas® Power Cells®). Castle's experience suggests using only mild gear ratios with NiMH cells. Do not attempt to use NiMH cells in extreme setups.

Castle Creations Mamba Monster X Waterproof 1/8 Scale Brushless ESC
Very nice esc.Well built and waterproof.
One major drawback is that it takes a special sensor cable that doesn't come in the box. Very frustrating.

Castle Creations Mamba Monster X Waterproof 1/8 Scale Brushless ESC
Was running 6s in my Arrma Outcast paired with the Castle 1515 motor and the Castle Bluetooth on pavement doing a speed run where the truck locked up and started smoking. The speed control is dead... No lights no receiver power either (battery tests good) also the motor stinks and one bearing locked up. honestly, I only had a few runs in on the motor.... Around 20 runs total on the esc and truck, this is my second 1515 that locked up.

Castle Creations Mamba Monster X Waterproof 1/8 Scale Brushless ESC
Good but not great. There's huge power on tap but the final 10-15% seems to come in a rush and therefore the throttle doesn't feel as smooth as my TO Vortex Pro X.
The fan is rubbish and like the vortex it's hidden within a plastic shroud that makes non-OEM spares / aftermarket fans difficult to use. I've cut the top off my shroud so I could fit a deeper 30mmx30mm brushless fan after the original started coughing and spluttering after only a few packs. The open design of the mamba X or muchmore esc is far better and thankfully newer ESC's all appear to be moving in that direction.
Castle offers fantastic support and the tech guys there are more than willing to help with any inquiry. They also offer a discounted replacement ESC should you somehow destroy one through your own misadventure...
The telemetry works well and is useful for diagnostics.
I tried the torque limiting option but found it glitchy where it would hesitate on occasion when putting the power down.
I'd say this ESC is more of a serious basher with racing as an after-thought. Not offering the sensor cable adapter standard doesn't help. I reckon the monster will be a winner when castle get around to giving it the mamba X treatment and further refine the throttle curve.

Castle Creations Mamba Monster X Waterproof 1/8 Scale Brushless ESC

works perfect until today, I carry with motor 2050kv Tekin mbx7 and sensors and perfect. Only one negative point; the fan is very bad, I was in the second battery ropió I put one and the same blades broke. In the end I decided to put a 25x25 fan bolted to the sink, for this top of the casing or cover must be removed.

The only downside is the fan. Otherwise, perfect.

This ESC is great. Except for the cooling fan. The fan stopped working shortly after getting the ESC on the car it's been installed on

Castle Creations Mamba Monster X Waterproof 1/8 Scale Brushless ESC
This is a great ESC for running a 1/8 scale truck/buggy. it is sensor and sensorless esc. I use it to run on a sensor 550 7.5T motor in the rain. but the sensor port on the motor side is shorted with water sip in the the buggy become clogging . I remove the sensor cable to run after. it is ok with no issue at all. just clean n dry after that. everything went well . Buy this ESC if you want something that can play wet and dry. Thank you Amain and Castle .

Castle Creations Mamba Monster X Waterproof 1/8 Scale Brushless ESC
Probably the best ESC on the market right now. The aux wire is what makes it so great, Currently run 3 of these in a bomber, wraith and rock rey and they all perform flawless. They are little big for "crawlers" but perform perfect. Also like the fact that switch wire is a part of harness so you can replace if needed. Only gripe is the first two did not come with a sensor harness, but the last one came with 2.. go figure.

Castle Creations Mamba Monster X Waterproof 1/8 Scale Brushless ESC
Mamba X wasn't cutting it with a 4100kv Puller Pro R motor on a TRX6. High temps from a motor that can pull 1700 watts and 150 amps. The Mamba X was staying at 155 to 175f throughout a 5ah 11.1v pack. Enter the Monster X. It runs the same setup at 135 to 155f.

Other than the power handling its as great as the Mamba X. A little hard to fit, but that's why the 1/8th scale esc can easily handle the loads.

Oh, and it definitely came with the sensor harness along with tinned motor wires and 6.5mm bullets. The sensor port dust cover just lifts off.

It is difficult to solder the thicker wire and make sure you have a good iron. My 60 watt setup had a hard time heating up the wires.

Castle Creations Mamba Monster X Waterproof 1/8 Scale Brushless ESC
Have to say.I purchased the Mamba Monster 2 esc and motor combo and the Mamba Monster x esc and motor combo. My Mamba Monster 2 ESC gave problems after putting a 6s lipo in it.It wouldn't start.Tried it a couple hours later and it worked.Until I tried using a 6s lipo again and it stopped working for good.

Eventually decided to use my Mamba Monster x esc with my 2200kv motor from my Mamba Monster 2.Initially everything worked fine.Eventually was using my car and when I applied full throttle it was only going at a pedestrian pace.I decided to pick it up and apply full throttle and I heard the the motor making a loud screeching sound and moving slowly.I decided to carry it home and check it more carefully. When I reached home I applied full throttle to see the response again the motor was running roughly and slowly.I just left on the esc and applied throttle again and the esc just kept restarting the initializing process.Eventually the esc just lost power.I took off the esc switch and tried to put it on again but the esc failed to start.I left it for an hour and tired again and it did start. When I applied throttle again the motor would sometimes run slowly and rough and other times would run up to full rpm.I eventually took of the esc and battery and put my car away.Later on I tired to start esc by flipping switch and it just wouldn't come on.

I can't believe I had such a bad experience.I kinda lost confidence in in Castle Creations ESCs.I heard many people in forums complaining about the fact they fail for no apparent reason. With me experiencing it myself I can attest to veracity of what they are saying it seems like Castle ESC suck.

Castle Creations Mamba Monster X Waterproof 1/8 Scale Brushless ESC
Very mixed bag honestly.
I got one originally to try out the castle brand for the first time and put into my Traxxas Erevo 2.0 (in honor of the V1 brushless edition haha) and so far it's been great overall, the power is great and the amount of customization is just insane, only issue with that one is that every once in awhile during a jump it will spontaneously lock up the tires and send the truck nose diving and/or throw the truck off during a flip causing a nice tumble, it only happens maybe once or twice during a run so I'm not concerned about it.
After my overall positive experience with the first one I decided to get another one to put into my Arrma Notorious which had recently fried a stock esc. Soldered up the connectors, calibrated perfectly, all the beeps sound normal, runs fine on the workbench, so I go to take it outside to test it on the pavement, but by the time I get to the asphalt it just stopped working, basically it acts like the motor had one of the leads disconnected, won't move an inch. Tried turning off & on, tried mounting a different motor with the same outcome, tried the same motor with a different esc and it worked fine, even tried recalibrating a couple times, not totally sure what's going on there. I reached out to Castle almost 6 months ago and I haven't heard anything back. This would easily be a 5 star rating, but I'm not at all pleased that I got a DOA esc and I've heard nothing back from them. I will definitely try other stuff from them if they can ever get anything that I'm looking for in stock, but for now I'll stick to my Hobbywings.
