Total garbage. This is plastic as plastic can be, which is normally okay, but before I first drove it and after installing the metal driveshafts, aluminum shock towers, big bore shocks, and ~10 minutes of use in the yard and in the street with very minimal driving and wheelies, everything was great until both rear wheels just stopped spinning, or they do spin, but you can hold them down and stop them both with one finger on full throttle. It doesn't even come close to doing any wheelies, it just spins around and it's squirrely at slow speeds now and basically only front-wheel drive. I've searched it high and low for a loose or missing part/screw, but it's all there still.
This is going straight back in the box. This is such a major disappointment, I don't even want to remove the upgrades, I'm just going to pack it up as is with all of the other stock parts in separate bags and never look at Traxxas again.
Second time in a row and only twice have I bought a traxxas and have been burned by them both time, the first time with the TRX4m. I have tons of other RCs of different types and I don't have these issues, not even close.
This truck has none of the design flaws of the Arrma 3S lineup. The drivetrain is rock-solid metal and fully protected against rocks and debris. It comes with a metal spur gear, not an expendable plastic one like the Arrmas do. The suspension arms are flexible and durable, and I have yet to break one despite plenty of bad launches and landings. The truck handles powerful 3S systems easily, and I plan on boosting mine up with a Castle system in the future once my old Dynamite Fuze system dies. The body mounting system is lovely, I've gotten a bit spoiled by it so now I find body clips annoying. The truck love to wheelie and jump high and do all sorts of flips. The bunny hop feature is a lot of fun too.
If there's any possible criticism to be made of the Hoss, it's the initial purchase price. I managed to build this truck for about $300 using a new roller chassis that I bought from an eBay chop shop, plus some tires and electronics that I already had lying around. However, summer sales aside, this truck normally retails for around $470. I personally think it's worth every penny, but I can understand why some folks might gravitate towards cheaper 1/10 scales from Arrma or Associated or even Traxxas itself. I encourage you --- *think twice* before you pass over the Hoss because of its price. It may cost more up front, but it doesn't need many of the upgrades that other 1/10 scales need in order to be reliable. The Arrma vehicles need about $75-100 in upgrades just to address common issues. At that point, the Hoss is the better bargain.
If you're still scared away by the price tag, I'd recommend the Team Associated Rival MT10 as an alternative to the Hoss. It's built with a similar level of toughness right out of the box.
Love my Hoss!
