Mod Truck (A1)
Kyosho’s Jared Tebo took advantage of mistakes from TQ TLR’s Dakotah Phend and was able to get out front for the majority of the race in A1 of Modified Truck. Team Associated’s Ryan Cavalieri would eventually pressure Tebo, who was driving a conservative pace to avoid mistakes. The smart driving paid off and he finished number 1 in A1 ahead of Cavalieri.
Mod SCT (A1)
Team Associated’s Ryan Maifield lead start to finish with his SC10.2 in what was a fairly easy victory for the multiple National Champion. Maifield, like Tebo, drove conservatively while drivers behind him made mistakes trying to catch “Mans”. TLR’s Dustin Evans looked like he had the fastest line around the track, but crashes and mistakes kept him from getting too close to Maifield.
Mod 4WD (A1)
Ty Tessmann lead from the start in Mod 4WD, but Team Associated’s Ryan Cavalieri would get right up on his back bumper late in the race. “I tried to run my race, but Cavalieri did make me nervous. I almost lost it over the triple at the end” said, Tessmann–Tessmann went wide after the triple jump leading onto the straightaway in the closing moments of the race. Cavalieri seemed to have the line at the end of the straightaway to make the pass as they approached the finish line, but unfortunately for Cav, he clipped the pipe and flipped his B44.2 several times giving the narrow win to Tessmann.
Mod 2WD (A1)
The most dramatic race of the opening round of A-mains was certainly the Modified 2WD race. Team Associated’s Ryan Cavalieri led from the start and seemed to have a comfortable lead. Cavalieri rolled it over in front of the drivers’ stand about mid way through the race that gave the lead to Associated’s Maifield. Maifield and Cavalieri would go onto battle back and forth the remainder of the race somewhat slowing the pace to allow TLR’s Dakotah Phend back into the hunt for victory. Phend, who was off the track early in the race clawed his way back into the mix by putting down some blistering laps- Phend is the only driver in the A Mains running a rear-motor car. In the closing laps of A1, Maifield and Cavalier both cased the triple before the straightaway, leaving both of their vehicles on their lids like pair of helpless turtles. Phend snuck by on the inside of both vehicles as they were being marshaled. He would hang on for a few laps to steal A1.
