This years IFMAR 1/8th off-road world championships in Argentina will mark the 5th time I have attended the prestigious event. As I reflect on my journey from my first worlds in Uraguay in 2002 to my 5th worlds coming up in Argentina, I can’t help but realize how much my life has changed in the past 10 years.
In 2002 I was a single 23 year old full of excitement at the mere idea of such an event and just wanted to see the best drivers from the entire world come together for what I thought may be a once in a lifetime experience. I had some success at that race with 1 or 2 top 10 runs but my inexperience in the finals showed and I did not advance. I was way more prepared from that point on!
Fast forward 10 years and things have certainly changed dramatically. I am now 33 years old, married to my best friend and the father of the most beautiful baby girl. I am now the team manager of an elite off-road racing tea and I just couldn’t be happier.
Believe it or not I am just as excited about this years worlds as I was 10 years ago. But now I’m excited because I know what’s ahead of me and not because I don’t.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that when you find something you really enjoy the feeling it provides never goes away. Things may change one way or another, but the excitement and happiness RC racing has brought to me in my lifetime has been phenomenal.
I’ve made amazing life long friends. I have been to countless exotic and beautiful countries. I work for the best company in the biz. And I did all this doing what I loved to do.
It’s been an amazing journey and reflecting on the last 10 years makes me realize just how extremely lucky and fortunate I have been.
