John McGinty’s 588 Raceway Summer Miller Shootout Benefit Race Report

September 15th, 2012

This weekend we went to the 588 Raceway Summer Miller Shootout benefit race.  The track is located in Tabor City, NC just shy of the South Carolina border.  It was a benefit race for one of the local racers wife who has breast cancer.  All the entry fee and raffle ticket money went to Jodi and Summer Miller to use as they please.  We raised just under $1700.00 for them.  Some manufacturers donated prizes such as: Mugen Seiki, Associated, Proline, JConcepts just to name a few.  Brandon Melton from Associated was not able to make the race but he donated his buggy to raffle off.  That was pretty cool of him and Associated.

Practice was from 8:00-11:30.  Racing started at 1200.  The plan was to run 3 qualifiers and 20 minute A Mains.  There were about 50 entries at Saturdays race.

I qualified 2nd in the Ebuggy A Main. After the start of the race TQ Nick Cattuna crashed in the 2nd turn.  I was able to get around him and keep the lead for the entire race to the A Main.

My son qualified 7th in the Pro Buggy A Main.  After the first lap he was in 5th place.  The top 5 were all very close swapping spots back and forth.  About half way through the race John Michael had taken over the lead.  After his pit stop he had a few bad laps in a row which moved him down to 5th place.  He settled down and worked his way back up to 4th overall.  It was a great race to watch and he did an awesome job.

This was a great event and it was for such an awesome cause.  A big thanks to everyone for supporting this event.

I would like to thank all of my sponsors for their continued support!!!
