This year the Nats were held in Oakland Mills, Pennsylvania, a small town with spectacular scenery. The three of us, including pit mom Janet (affectionately named MJ in the pits), arrived around midnight, got our rental car, and headed to our hotel near the track. By the time we arrived at the hotel and got to bed, it was 3am, and unfortunately we had to be back up at 6am to head to the track for practice.
Even though we are from the desert where it gets extremely hot, the high temps mixed with the humidity were extreme even for us. Dylan suffered heat exhaustion while marshaling for his practice rounds and needed a douse with the water hose to get him cooled down and feeling better.
The track was technical and ever changing for us, and we never really get a good handle on our cars and ended up with a lackluster weekend. After all four rounds of qualifying we were sitting 13th in truggy and 21st in buggy and that’s about where we wound up after the mains.
I must say it was a little strange watching the mains from the spectator area and not in the pits but somewhat relaxing as well, so whatcha gunna do.
Team manager, Marty Korn did a stellar job, as usual, and we had a great time in the pits with our fellow teammates.
It’s always encouraging to draw off of Marty and Chad’s years of experience when questions arise, as they always do. These two guys have been through it all, have seen it all, and are willing to help at every turn.
Accolades go out to Austin Blair and Curtis Door for their great runs. Also, special thanks to Matt Gosch for keeping us laughing all week long; what a crazy young man.
We are now looking forward to our next races and ultimately the Worlds.
Thanks again A Main Hobbies and Kendall Bennett. Without them none of this would be possible and we feel very fortunate to be a part of this team.
