After I installed this it seemed too loose and wobbly so I put the original strut back in to see if it had the same problem. The original strut fit had a nice, snug fit. Upon closer inspection, it was obvious that the original strut had a wider diameter than this strut. Even though the nose wheel is visible when retracted I used the original strut. At the speeds this plane is capable of on a runway, a wobbly strut could break the retract housing. I would avoid a grass runway entirely.
It might be possible to work around this problem by putting some shrink tube on the strut, but I did not try this. |
