Bought one of these and the sensor board failed after just a few runs- motor started cogging badly. Removed the sensor harness and it runs fine with my M/MPro ESC set to "SmartSense" sensorless operation. Also dialed back the factory 30 deg. of static timing- motor still kicks butt, but doesn't get nearly as hot. Can't see any performance loss at all with sensorless operation- sooooo I won't be running ANY motors with sensor-only operation. Not to mention no worries about failing sensor assemblies!
FYI--
Don't know why Novak is factory setting the static timing on this motor to 30deg advance, because with the gearing in my TEN SCTE 4wd (Mod 1.0 pitch 40t spur & 11-13t pinion) and retarding static timing to 5 deg, the truck still hauls a--. Maybe that's what works with Novak sensored ESC's- don't know because I'm using a MambaMax Pro w/ SmartSense sensorless operation.
Losi recommends ANY 4.5T 550 motor and 16T PINION for this truck- NOTTTTT!!! Ran 2 laps with that setup and the Novak motor was cooking over 195 deg. and the truck speed never topped out on the 100ft straightaway!! Guess the Losi Excelorin ESC (also Losi-recommended) handles that gearing by some kind of current limiting/torque control...don't know. |
