Just a crazy comment that the motor doesnt work in the dirt. I'm deployed to Afghanistan and when I have down time my friends and I bash the **** out of our Slash 4x4's. They have the SC4X and I have the Ballistic 4.5. I've never had a motor perform better than this thing. Crazy torque and it's always in the dirt hitting their cars. I don't think there is a worse place than here for dirt and sand so I dont believe it when someone says they got a little dirt in it and it quit working. Novak[More…] |

bought this motor for my losi scte and it sucked. i was running it on a rx8 esc and i was getting smoked down the straight. I changed it out with a lrp 5.5 turned and it made that truck come to life. The only thing this motor should be used for is a paper weight. |

Strong motor. At 4.5T be careful with advance timing. I run it on a sand covered track all the time. It does get grit in there but the motor is built for maintenance and disassembles easily. Bearing replacement on the front bell cover is an easy press-out. The small rear bell is difficult as it is a "blind press" and you cannot get anything behind the bearing to get it out. Novak makes a replacement with a new bearing installed for about $9 so that may be the best way. I decided to drill [More…] |

Bought one of these and the sensor board failed after just a few runs- motor started cogging badly. Removed the sensor harness and it runs fine with my M/MPro ESC set to "SmartSense" sensorless operation. Also dialed back the factory 30 deg. of static timing- motor still kicks butt, but doesn't get nearly as hot. Can't see any performance loss at all with sensorless operation- sooooo I won't be running ANY motors with sensor-only operation. Not to mention no worries about failing sensor assembli[More…] |

I had this motor and the Havoc SC Pro esc in a slash 4x4, I raced in the state series last year, flawless! It did not lack any power against any of the others, very smooth throttle feel, ballistic with timing added. I have sold the truck and esc/motor to a buddy for this year, again, flawless thus far. I am getting another for my sc10 4x4, great system! |

This motor should not be marketed as an offroad motor. After one race day both bearings on the motor were shot due to the motor sucking the dirt in. Novak told me to use scotch tape to cover up the unused motor mounting holes, so I did. After the next race I opened up the motor and still large amounts of dirt in the can of the motor. Don't get me wrong, the motor perfoms great but is a total maintenance nightmare. You will be spending alot of money on bearings if you go with this motor. |

I am bummed you had an issue with that motor. I have 1 in a Hyper 10SC and 1 in a Traxxas 4x4 Platinum and both work extremely well with no issues. I had one in my SCRT before selling it to an employee and he has had no issues. Overall its been a great motor. I ran it with an 11.1 in my Traxxas and its incredibly fast. This motor with the Castle Creations 1/10 scale Pro ESC is the perfect combo. You will have better luck with the next one for sure. I think it was a fluke... |

I have the older silver version of this motor and man does it kick ass in a 4x4 short course truck, tons of power and stays nice and cool.
With both geared correctly in a Jammin SCRT10 my Castle 5700kv 540 motor hits temps over 160F near the end of a battery pack while my Novak 4.5 550 motor never gets above 110F. This is with a 2s battery.
Do keep in mind the motor is quite a bit heavier then the 540 size so you might need to fiddle with your cars weight balance a bit. |

Got the motor and esc back from Novak about a week and a half after sending it in. They said one of the phases or something was bad. Anyway I haven't had any more problems at all with the novak 4.5 and havok pro combo-this combo has tons of torque and top speed is blazin' fast in a jammin scrt. |
