In stock form this box is quite junk. However, once you rewire everything with thicker Deans and use better battery plugs (such as Deans Ultra), this thing is great! I'm using a 4S 5000mah lipo strapped to the box with velcro and it starts my super tight Go Tech very easily!
I have had the universal starter box and the buggy/truggy box. If you want a starter box that will work buy something else.
The box works great,no problem starting my Losi 8T with a O.S. 30VGP.
I hard re-wired the motors and box with 12 gauge wire and a deans plug. I use a single li-po pack and the box works great!!!. The stock box has small gauge wiring and all kinds of different connections that cause electrical Resistance. If you run both losi buggy and truggy you will love the box after you rewire it!!!
No this starter box only works with the losi 8ight based vehicles. -//- I am happy with this starter box eccept the for fact that the posts arent as snug of a fit to the chassis as I would have hoped. Losi also makes it hard for you if you want to use a gel cell because the wiring harness is too short.
Junk starter box burned out the motors after 2 months of use DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have never had a problem with these boxes. Every new one I get I break in the box motors by running them for about 3 minutes constant. I'm using two stick packs and it ALWAYS has enough power to turn over any of my novarossi, grp, rb...etc....engines.
Lots of people forget to use a heat gun to preheat a new engine to keep it from locking up at TDC. Then they want to blame a starter box motor frying on bad wiring. If you put a seriously heavy load on any electric motor for long enough it's going to go poof.
I am running this box with two stick packs, at first this was not enough power to start the engine, then I cut off the Tamiya connectors and replaced with Deans, engine started!
Was at the track yesterday for practice with my new starter box, the engine was running but would then cut out, weird so myself and group of fellow racers looked at the car and the starter box, the wheels where running backwards! Losi had the motors wired the wrong way round.
Now the car starts first time and the box is great, my question to Losi is you are meant to be a high end supplier why must we rewire the box and check your work???
I like this box. It starts my p5xs every time no problem. I am using lipo starter box battery with it.
Buddy of mine burned up two of them trying to start a Mach 427. I let him use my OFNA Truggy starter box for his 8T and it fired right up.
this is a bad box need new motor and it will be great for the 8 & 8t
Well it works for my mach 427 I had to adjust the wheel to engage as soon as you push down the truggy just to get it too crank it over which I think is not very good, also I wish the chassis would be he nice and tight but there is slop in the rear, however it does work for now with no problems but my next box will be the ofna truggy box.
I wish there was a lower rating for this box as it should not even be sold for 1/8th scale it should turn a
cox .049 engine over but anything bigger i have to wonder,I have a mach 427 and with the engine hot and the glow plug 3 turns out the POS could barly turn it over, the wheel is to big and the wiring very small tried both the 12v and the 2 -7.2v I usually dont write reviews but trying to save people money the ofna truggy with the 2-775 motors started my engine right up it was cold and with the glow plug tight its worth the extra $25
I will be ebaying my losi box its 1 day old any takers, and i did mill out my losi chassis it was not hitting anything but the fly wheel i wish I would have read the reviews before I bought it will not happen agian please keep the review coming
Great box, bad wiring. I re-wired the box with 12 guage wire and soldered all connections including the 2 stick pack batteries. WOW! What a difference! I LOVE the box, now! They should not have "cheaped out" on the wiring and connectors in the first place.
This box comes in handy when you have both a losi 8 and 8T, but when i comes to breaking in any engines with a decent amount of pinch it won't do it. If your friend can help you break in your engine with his more powerful box and you have both the losi's then go for it, but otherwise get the ofna truggy start.
Guess I got a bad one too. Mine wont even attempt to start my 8losi with the glow plug out 3 turns on a 427! If you wont a really good box buy the OFNA truggy with dual 770 motors.I think its got enough grunt to start my 06 viper LOL.
If you have a Losi 8T or 8B, you can't go wrong with this box. Other starter boxes require modification. I was able to break in a Werks B7 with this starter box with no problem.
I just picked one of these up after switching to an 8B and 8T. After reading all the bad reviews about the motor issues, I took a gamble and picked one up... I have read to rewire the box, use deans plugs instead of the tamiya's, and to run the box/motors for 5 minutes or so to break them in... I did just that, and this box is simply amazing. I can HONESTLY say, that it is more powerful than my Mugen BII boxes that I was previously using. I am running 2 stick packs (3600's) and the box is awesome. Don't hesitate to pick one up.
This box is perfect for the 8 & 8T owner, two in one is really convenient. Many guys complain that it won't turn over their motors, and they fry their motors trying. If you break the motors in for about five minutes before any engine use and oil the bushings regularly it will last a long time. Be patient and warm the motor up without a plug in it (but not for prolonged periods), set up the wheel so it does not rub against the chassis also. Many of the top end comp motors have extreme pinch so warming up the motor is just logical. I also found that my 8 rtr flywheel was a bit thinner that my pro flywheel. So a wider flywheel will make a huge difference.
hi, i have one just a couple of day´s, and can´t be more satisfied. it starts my RB C6BB easier and fast.
great box.
