This is the Futaba 2PL 2.4GHz FHSS Surface Radio System and included R603GF Receiver. Now there's no reason why sport racers and boaters should miss out on the advantages of spread spectrum! The 2PL Sport 2.4GHz FHSS offers modelers an affordable 2.4GHz alternative that retains the 2PL's programming features while providing the interference-free control that has made 2.4GHz all the rage in R/C! FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) eliminates the need for frequency pins and signal interference, while the included R603GF receiver features a flexible coaxial antenna that's easy to position inside the model for optimum reception. With easy, convenient push-button transmitter/receiver linking, and no binding plugs, set up is as easy as it gets. The 2PL uses only 4 dry cells, instead of the 8 cells that are usually required, so the 2PL is also lighter than the previous model.

NOTE: 2.4GHz Sport FHSS is not compatible with Futaba FASST systems.

Futaba 2PL 2.4GHz FHSS Radio System w/R603GF Receiver
I have the 3PM Radio ... this 2PL compared to that is much more simple to use. Dont' get me wrong the 3PM is awesome and has a lot of features - but a lot of the features are more for nitro car settings. I 'm an electric power r/c kind of guy so this 2PL I would say is all you need if you do Electric power rc cars. It would be nice to have the timer function like the 3PM has and the "sub trim" function...but anyway I really don't use these features anyway (Timer and sub trim).

One of the most critical feature to me is the end point adjustment and this baby has it!

BTW, this radio doesn't have an antenna or any 2.4 "like" antenna. The receiver's "radio" wire / antenna is a bit longer compared to other brand ones and even compared to the Futaba 3PM / PK receivers. So most likely you would need to drill a hole for the radio wire / antenna. I'm pretty much the only guy that needs to drill a hole on my RC8Te because the receiver's wire was long.

Anyway, this radio is great and reliable. No interference problems (as with many 2.4 radios), long range yeah no doubt to the point you can't really see the car (I think that's far enough), if you want more you'd probably need a GPS to locate your car.

With this price I would recommend this to any bashers or racers

Futaba 2PL 2.4GHz FHSS Radio System w/R603GF Receiver
Perfect radio for beginners & more.
Excellent value for price.
Setup is easy, all elementary functions available, good handling including easy-access to D/R and trim buttons while driving.
Powered with 4 AA batteries only, which make a light weight radio.
Low size receiver (fits perfectly the small radio box of the Losi 8ight, for example).
Fail safe is a bit "light":
1/ radio OFF, car switched OFF-to-ON = throttle servo not powered = not a real fail safe.
2/ radio ON, car switched OFF-to-ON = throttle failsafe position received from Tx -> from now, if radio ON-to-OFF: servo moved to the failsafe position.

Futaba 2PL 2.4GHz FHSS Radio System w/R603GF Receiver
I have been racing with the radio for 5 months. It's an OK entry level radio, but it leaves a lot to be desired. The most glaring feature missing from this radio is EXPO. There are other capabilities that would be nice to have, but at this price point, you can't expect much. It's also a pain to switch between saved models, and it does not have any sort of 'Model Failsafe' like Spectrum, that prevents you from using 'Model 1' radio settings with one of your other model cars/trucks. That, along with the weird way you switch models, makes this a rather annoying unit.

There does not appear to be any way to run a LiPo recharge pack in the radio. Battery holder does come out, but the wiring does not have a connector that can be unplugged, it just disappears into the body. Another annoyance is the lack of a power indicator on the body. I've run down more than a few sets of batteries because I left it turned on by accident.

There are some upsides. Never had a servo or radio glitch, even running power hungry hi-torque servos, and I can get receivers for under $50. I think there are other radios near this price point I'd rather own.

Futaba 2PL 2.4GHz FHSS Radio System w/R603GF Receiver
I got this radio from TowerHobbies a couple weeks ago, and I have to say, for the price this is the best 2.4GHz system out there! All the adjustments a club racer would ever need, and the ABS feature is awesome. It is very light weight since it only requires 4 AA sized batteries, and it is very comfortable in your hand.

I had 1 slight issue with it, and it was my fault, but it wanted to glitch when my truggy hit large bumps while bashing or bad landings from jumps on the track. The reason this was my fault was because I did not have any padding around the receiver and it was slamming into the front of the radio box causing it to glitch. Since these receivers do not have the heat problems like the FASST receivers do, you can ad alot of padding around it in your radio box. I used some used air filter foam and foam from a box that most nitro engines come in, and cut pieces to the correct shape to basically go completely around, below, and above the receiver in my radio box. Since doing this, I have not had a single glitch!

Anyway, I highly recommend this radio to anyone who wants 2.4GHz but doesn't want to pay the price (or need the features) of the super high end systems.
